New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

So I was browsing Rotten Tomatoes when I saw a first peek of the new Supeman movie coming out, Man of Steel. The thing that caught my eye is that the costume doesn't have that sharp, vibrant blue that I remember from the cartoons and Christopher Reeves days. Has the same color changed happened in the comics too or is this just a Hollywood thing to make the character somehow darker?
Costume color has been variable in the comics forever. The scene also looks very dark which plays a role.

Also the Christopher Reeves days should have been aborted. I blame them for every bad comic book movie regardless of how much they helped caused them.

Watched Primal Fear and Murder in the First last weekend, both being repeats for me. I very much appreciate both and the cast of the former is outstanding. But watching the latter again reminded me that iirc it didn't receive close to enough praise for being not only imho an outstanding movie, but also that it should have garnered wicked high praise for not only Kevin Beacon but also Christian Slater.

Superman I and II are awesome (Donner cut for II). III is great....when blasmed. MST3K worthy. IV? Doesn't exist. I have never watched it, and never plan to.

Lies, dirty dirty lies.

Now go fly around the planet so fast you somehow make it reverse and that reverses time for some reason... Or go play Superman 64, which is a superior experience than watching those movies.

How about you go believe in a deity or something, and let the adults love their good movies. :D

I liked the SII original movie....until I saw the Donner cut. That was a major improvement in tone of the movie.

Imaginary friend? Aren't you supposed to grow out of those?

Like a bat credit card improves his purchasing power.

Actually I don't think I've seen the 3rd and 4th one because the first two were such huge disappointments.

Give me these old things anyday.

Wait, you mean superhumans aren't real?
Yes, my desire is for him to have no powers. Although given the option of a Captain America type superhero verses one who rapes reality and reason like that scene, I would go for the normal people fooled by a pair of glasses.

This violates my suspension of disbelief less than that scene. (The Flash saving a city from a nuclear explosion as it's happening.)

I have read Richard Donner say that the "Superman turning the World Backwards" scene was originally just supposed to represent him travelling through time. (sort of like in Star Trek IV where they slingshot around the sun) He basically builds up speed by flying around the world and then breaks the barrier. That explanation does not bother me.

I hate to even know what movies you like if you think the Superman movies rape reality. I mean you pretty much have to hate the X-Men movies...I mean Magneto's escape in X2 is so LOL ridiculous you should have walked out. Or how about how in Spiderman Peter is this dorky unathletic dude, gets bit by a spider and 12 hours later has abs of steel! Truly unrealistic!

I mean I guess the only thing you can like is Batman...oh and Captain America. Most of the heroes in the real world needed steroids to be awesome as well ;) Funny how Captain America didnt have to go in front of Congress like baseball players did :p

Oh I get that the world turning backwards is just to visually show that time is going backwards along with the reverse shots but he's still going really fast in a circle. So he's going faster than the speed of light, warping space time in a specific way to tunnel back through time, and being able to overcome the angular momentum that would be put on him from going that fast in that tight a space. The sheer reality breaking forces he would have been under make Lois Lane being able to have a kid with him seem realistic. Even if he did that, somehow went back in time by spinning around really fast, that other missile would have still be there, or there are now two supermen running around. Or why, if he's that fast he couldn't just stop both.

It's like the other deus ex machina to restore the status quo in the second movie where they had him kiss away Lois' memories of his identity. Maybe if it wasn't an underpowered golden age Superman suddenly developing the silver age go have lunch in another galaxy powers it wouldn't be so out of place.

Not about realism it's about it being bad story telling.

See the only thing I got from that video was how stupid Batman is. Superman said everything I have always hated about Batman. :)

That movie looks horrible.

As for movies that were not horrible...RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES! Just wonderful! 5 stars...literally could not have been better in my mind and in the mind of my father who loves the original movie. Andy Serkis deserves and Oscar for his portrayal of the chimp...and I wont lie if it is nominated for Best Picture it would be very much deserved.

There is a moment, when the entire tone of the movie changes, where everyone in the theater went "Oh My God" and you could hear jaws hitting the floor. It was pretty cool :)

BTW I say all this having never seen any of the POTA films minus the cruddy remake. Also, I thought this movie would stink. I was so happy to be wrong :)

Going to see that in about half an hour. I was somewhat excited about it when the first trailers were released and I'm happy it's getting good reviews.

Planet of the Apes

I can't decide if I liked it or not. There were parts that I thought were great but the parts between them I felt were weak. Caesar is shown to be incredibly intelligent but the guy who raises him doesn't really recognize that. Caesar knows sign language and can understand english, he should be able to articulate and communicate with him but it just doesn't happen. There's a point where he's trying to explain that Caesar is not a pet but he's so incompetent about it. I've seen people treat their tiny dogs with more respect than Caesar gets. The only one who seems to is the alzheimers stricken father.

The passage of time isn't consistent. Caesar is apparently able to teach all the apes in the sanctuary after smartening them up but it happens without any sense of time to it. Did it happen in an afternoon or a month?

Bobo or Boku or whatever the really evil looking chimps name is was great. Everything about him screamed bad news and he lives up to it.

One thing I did learn, helicopters are impossible to pilot with a ****ed off gorilla in your lap.
