Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I laugh my *** off every time I hear "Telephone Line" by the ELO because I instantly think of Steve Buscemi putting on lipstick in Billy Madison.

"You Belong To Me" by Dylan (Natural Born Killers) also is a fave of mine. Such a calm moment in that movie (which was written by Tarantino, then made awesome by Oliver Stone; Tarantino dis-owned Stone's movie for the record).

I know everyone will be watching college hockey tonight, but just in case or after the game...

TCM is showing the "Man With No Name" trilogy tonight:

8pm: A Fistful of Dollars

9:45pm: For a Few Dollars More

12mid: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Bond was pretty awesome! A little longer than it needed to be but I still give it an A! :)

I saw it yesterday (though not in IMAX) and also enjoyed it. While still over the top at times I feel like with the newer Daniel Craig Bond movies, the action sequences seem more gritty and less cheesey than in past ones (including the Brosnan ones). I had heard somewhere that they are going that direction now due to movies like the Bourne Trilogy having those type of action sequences. The crowd in my theater seemed to get excited when Bond opened up that garage door to finally reveal the DB5.

Speaking of surfer songs and Tarantino, "Misirlou" pretty much tops this list for me.

Don't forget "From Dusk to Dawn"

ZZ Top, Stevie Ray, Jimmie Vaughan and Tito & Tarantula all on the soundtrack -- all led by the Blasters' 'Dark Night'

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

So they are making another Transformers movie, and it will star Marky Mark.

Sounds great.

I really have no idea where they are going to go with the plot for this one. They already killed off Megatron twice. And maybe a little ironic that the voice of Sentinal Prime was also the voice of Galvatron from the original series so I don't think they are going to bring in Galavatron as a new bad guy. They're going to have to go off the reservation with this one.

I think Mr. Nimoy has realized his mistake by this point and been punished enough for being Sentinel Prime's voice actor in a Bay movie.

It's too bad that one level of the Fall of Cybertron game is more entertaining than the entire movie franchise.

I like the first movie. The second one pretty well blows, and the third one would is somewhere in between.

None of them had the touch.

Haywire:

Meh. When action was actioning, it was decent. Then there would be mind-numbing lulls (do we really need a 2 minute continuous/no breakaway of a head on shot of her running?) that killed any momentum.

Get The Gringo:

I really liked this one. It was like Ocean's 11 (Clooney version) mashed with anything in the El Mariachi movies and a touch of standard Mel Gibson action movie. I do recommend this one.

Saw "Skyfall." Enjoyed it.

Saw a preview for "A Good Day to Die Hard." Want to punch babies.

I think the only thing that could have made it better was if Albert Finney's character had been played by Sean Connery I think that alone would have made it the second best Bond movie ever ;)

BTW I called Moneypenny and The New M the second they had their first scenes...and I still thought it was friggin awesome :D

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Well, it goes without saying that it would be pretty dang sweet to have Connery in one of the new Bond movies. even if its just a quick cameo of him.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Octopussy wiht Roger Moore is still my favorite Bond movie. Although I think that's because it was my favorite when I was a kid. Not necessarily because it's truly the best one.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Battle Royale (Japanese movie; made in 2000). Basic plot sounds like what I've heard of the Hunger Games. Gov't devises a system that pits a junior high class of kids against each other, to thin out the population/weed out the worthless future adults. I really liked it, and am looking forward to watching the sequel that they made. Interesting to see how the story develops (as everyone is given a "weapon" which could range from a pot lid to a gun to a GPS tracking system that tracks the other kids).

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I caught Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on my flight from Anchorage to Minneapolis. It was awesome.

Also watched The Avengers on my Kindle on the flight from Seattle to Anchorage, and I really wasn't that impressed. It had so much hype but I really didn't think it was that great. I liked both of the Ironman movies and the Captain America movie that I saw previously better, and it doesn't even come close to the recent Batman franchise.

I started watching Promethius on the flight from Minneapolis to Amsterdam, but then the stupid flight attendant reset the entertainment system in the plane because she claimed it wasn't working (seemed to be working fine for me and everyone else I could see) and it never came back online for 95% of the plane. I only got to see the first 30 minutes of it. So far it is ok. I'm going into it knowing that it isn't the kind of movie that I normally like, because sci-fi is trash, but at the point I was at, it wasn't too bad yet. I am hoping I can finish it on the flight back to the states.

I liked it, but agree it went a bit long (and some of the things Silva did were a bit too "anticipatory").

With regard to grittiness, I read that they're going back to the tone of the original Flemming books (and of Dr. No for that matter). That's one reason why Bond is more nasty and less flip (like stinkin' Roger Moore, who I hated as Bond).

And I loved it when the DB5 was revealed!
