Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Just read the plot and I'm looking for the bleach!

I will say there is NOTHING close to a sex scene, it's just the general.....mood, I guess. The banter. Just icky creepy.

Earth vs. the Flying Saucers now on TCM.

"People of Earth, attention!"

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I finally saw Crash.

JFC, how this movie got a single good review is beyond me. A bunch of sanctimonious garbage. At times the acting was good, but overall the movie was barely watchable.

Again, and I know Handy will agree with me, "Crash" was better when it was called "Higher Learning."

God I hate Crash...I mean hate! And I dont hate it because it shows me how racism exists and is wrong I hate it because it is a poorly made piece of crap :D

Higher Learning owns it in every way. I mean Ice Cube > Ludacris, Jennifer Connelly/Kristy Swanson > Sandra Bullock, Laurence fishburne > * and so on :D

I agree on Spike Lee too

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I didn't hate Crash when I saw it, but it certainly wasn't Best Picture worthy on any level whatsoever.

Utterly forgettable movie.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Caught up on some movies over the past week...

Moonrise Kingdom - Quirky and just plain odd, in a good way. I didn't have to Google it to know that it was made by the same guy who did The Life Aquatic (which I didn't care for). Can't quite put a finger on why I liked this movie or what my takeaway was. Certainly left me a little melancholy for when I was young.

Contraband - Watched this movie with the 13 year old son. We both liked it more than Shooter which we just watched a couple of weeks ago. Good pace and level of tension even if it's all a little rote for the genre. I enjoy the Walbergs as actors.

Jeff Who Lives At Home - Enjoyable movie although far heavier (in the middle) than I expected. Uncomfortably real and funny because of it. Jason Segel and Ed Helms are great although it can be hard for me to see Helms as anyone other than his character in the Hangover movies.

EDIT: Oh yeah and...

Flying Swords of Dragon's Gate - Took a chance on this as we love Hero and Crouching Tiger and used my phone (in the store) to check the Amazon rating (4 stars). Watched about 3-4 minutes and had to shut if off. Not even good BAD kung fu/martial arts. Absolutely awful and cheesy in dialog, choreography, overdubs and effects.

Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion. It's being reported (or maybe this is just speculation, I'm repeating what I saw on Facebook) that a seventh Star Wars movie is in the works.

Disney is buying Lucas Films.

Just wait for the Star Wars - Pirates of the Caribbean crossover movie.

Either April 1st is coming early or I need to go cry in the shower.

Disney [DIS 50.08 --- UNCH ] said there would be a new series of "Star Wars" feature films as part of the deal, with the first movie expected in 2015. Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger, in prepared remarks for analysts, said the plan was to release a new movie in the series every two to three years thereafter.

Lucas, a Hollywood icon known for exercising control over the most minute details of the fictional universe he created, will remain as a creative consultant.

"It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers," he said in a statement. Besides "Star Wars," the deal also includes rights to the "Indiana Jones" franchise, though Disney did not elaborate on any plans for that series.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Without Lucas too involved...

It might not suck.

The only silver lining is Lucas' limited involvement in what would probably become the gritty reboot of the Star Wars trilogy. But even without George Lucas involved, there's only so many things that can be done to keep Brett Ratner and Michael Bay away from those things.

And really, at this point, any change or new attempt at adding to it is just going to keep making it worse.

Maybe Disney will just re-release the non-special editions. Yeah, that's what they paid $4 billion for.

Watched Reservoir Dogs again last night. The Stuck in the Middle with You scene is still great.
