Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!
I watched the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the Girl Who Played with Fire, and the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest recently. All three movies were very good, though I did like the books better (no surprise). Watching the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as a stand alone is a good movie in its own right. The other two require viewing the previous movies (or reading the books) before viewing. They're all in Swedish with English subtitles, or you can do the dubbed version, but I just didn't think it would sit right with me. Hollywood is in the process or remaking them for this market. If you're reading the books and then watching the movies, I'd suggest reading the first two books before watching the first movie. Some of the things referenced within the first book, and then answered in the second book (All the Evil, for those who've read) are given away immediately in the first movie.
The fun thing about watching them in Swedish is that they really do sound like the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show.
