A Scanner Darkly:

1. First impression: Ok, that was a friggin' weird-arse drug trip to watch.
2. Second impression: Great story, did the way they shot that add to, take away, or didn't matter to the story?
3. Final impression, possibly changing over the next couple days: it added to it a little, visually and to what the story was about, and I really liked it.

I was about 3 stars (out of 5) initially, but I think this is a 4-star movie (not using 1/2 stars, btw). Downey Jr is excellent in it, and so is Harrelson. The others are pretty good (Ryder, Reeves, Cochrane), but I think pale relatively to DJ and Woody.

Definitely a must see for movie buffs, and a should see for people who want to see something different.

I agree with this -- I think this movie is underrated. I felt the style helped translate the bizarre off-balance feeling you get when you read a Dick story, so I think it did add an important element.

Ugh. No thanks to that one.

I went through IMDB's upcoming movies list for the rest of the year. There was only 1 or 2 movies that I think I want to actually see in theaters. One is Super 8 and the other is maybe Cowboys & Aliens (partly because it has a heck of a cast: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano, Olivia Wilde, Clancey Brown, Walton Goggins, Kieth Carradine, and Toby Huss)....and maybe Hangover II which I just now remembered.

Other than that not much looked good. But as trailers for some of the other movies come out that could change things. But based on the plot synopsis of most of them...meh.

I'd like to see Sucker Punch. I don't think Snyder is that good at dialogue or plot development, but visually, I think his movies are great. Matinee showing will be fine.

I also really really really want to see Cowboys & Aliens. 1) It's James Bond and Indiana Jones together! 2) I like Jon Favreau 3) It looks fun.

I'll wait to see Hangover II on DVD.

Cowboys and Aliens is going to suck...what was the last movie Harrison Ford had a part in that was any good?

I might not see a movie in the theaters until Green Lantern.

I think it's going to have a crappy story with terrible action and over acting. In other words....exactly what I want from a campy comic book film.

See now that is exactly what I want from a movie I am not paying 10 bucks in a theater to see :D ;)

It used to be I would see any flick because the price point was not out of whack. I mean all I needed was a buddy to ask and I was there! Now I need to have a reason to see a movie, I mean a real solid justification or there is no way I am wasting the money on it, especially when it will be out on DVD in 6 months anyways.

Yes, but only because I like Green Lantern. If I didnt read the comics most likely I would skip it. Plus who doesnt like a good space opera. ;)

Plus I am saving all sorts of cash not seeing the other crap out there :p

Turned Encore on this morning and watched Canadian Bacon for the first time. Haven't laughed that hard in awhile.

They should have had Til Schweiger play Thor. I'd watch Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz fly around and smash evil dudes with a big hammer. :)

I still expect to see Dolph Lundgren as Asgardian number 3 in Thor.

JFC. That was depressing (and a bit disturbing at times). I'm never going to go to the backwoods of the Ozarks, that's for sure.

VERY good movie, though, and highly recommend it.
