Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Dick Tracy was a pretty solid comic book movie. Yes, I just said that.

I do remember the midnight showings when it came out. I wish I coulda went. It was a new concept for many of my generation. :o

Hot Tub Time Machine

Meh. Probably better with a group of friends, and quite a few drinks. I'd probably rank it along the lines of trying to be the new "Dude, Where's My Car?"

Hot Tub Time Machine was better than Dude Where is My Car...Cusack >>>>>> Ashton and Stiffler!

I said "along the lines." :p

I did enjoy some of the inside jokes, for lack of a better term. During the Bet "Hey McFly...." stuff like that.

HTTM was way, way better than we had any right to expect, given it was one of "those movies."

I have a soft spot for Dick Tracy, too. It winked after a long age of movies taking themselves far too seriously. Now of course we have the opposite problem, with every movie (or TV show, or blog, or everything) winking so spasticly because the only unpardonable sin in this age is sincerity.

In Superman news Diane Lane has signed onto the movie to play Ma Kent...I never thought I would say this but I want to #@$# Ma Kent! ;) Rumors abound that Kevin Costner will play Pa Kent. even crazier rumors that Viggo Mortensen and Daniel Day-Lewis are in talks to play the villain

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Patton.

Awesomeness.
Rango, even more awesome. See this movie. I'm really surprised that it's been marketed more towards families when there are so many references that'll go over younger viewers heads and it actually has a couple violent scenes.

We can't stop here. This is bat country!

That movie piqued my interest, but in no way can you compare it to Patton. No. Way. You fail worse than you have ever failed, (and the list is long).

I own Patton and it is good if a bit dry for the majority, although give me Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, or the first half of Full Metal Jacket any day. But Rango was a lot more entertaining than Patton. It's like every entertaining western trope combined with subtle references wrapped up in some very pretty visuals.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Haven't seen Rango yet, but a positive comparison to Patton is... improbable.

Patton's a fantastic portrayal of a complex character, and the strange thing is Patton himself was probably even more ambiguous and layered than the dramatist's imagination.

Lucky Number Slevin = pure awesome. Reminded me a lot of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Ladykiller, both of which I loved.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

I like me some long movies, but this was one ridiculous. It could have been cut down to just over 2 hours, at least, and been just fine. It really took away from the story. The acting was okay, story okay, cinematography great.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

That movie did, in fact, run for something like 11 hours.

I know Brent hated it, but I enjoyed the Runaways. Not great but I liked it especially Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett I mean she owned that role.

Black Snake Moan. Not sure if I liked it or not. There were good parts and meh parts.

I liked that movie, but it was an odd one.

Predators

Now this is a fun movie. Loved all the nods to the original, whether they were obvious or not, and I have to admit, Adrian Brody was awesome in it.
