New Poll Predictions for 1/25

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/25

The poll gets emailed to staff. Not sure why the link isn't updated yet but I have dispatched an email to get it taken care of.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/25

I've never really tried to comment on the D-III poll. Mostly because analyzing where everyone is and where they should be makes my head hurt. Regardless, I do have some thoughts:

-Personally, I agree with Oswego being #1. However, I can make an argument for either Oswego or Norwich to be #1. If they played each other, wouldn't that be a great matchup?

-I don't agree with Elmira falling two spots this week. Sure, they played and beat perennial punching bag Lebanon Valley twice; but to penalize them for two conference games that they have to play doesn't seem fair. Maybe they didn't beat them by enough:rolleyes: .

-Middlebury (and a couple of other teams) probably shouldn't be in the top 15. The Panthers have been overrated all season, and last weekend looked ugly. In their last four periods, Middlebury was outscored 9-0, which for a team ranked 6th is absolutely horrendous. Remember what happened to Stout earlier this season? Go to Norwich, get torched, go from #7 to nowhere. Keep in mind, Stout got torched by Norwich and um, Middlebury. While Middlebury was beaten by New England College and St. Anselm, teams that strike fear into the hearts of nobody. TOMA indeed.

-Speaking of teams in the wrong places, I think Colby has been underrated all season. The fact that they stumbled out of the gate has cost them so much in the rankings. Since the opening weekend of the season passed, the Mules have been on a 13 game unbeaten streak, and only now are they in the top 15. We'll all get to see if Colby is indeed for real this week, since they get to play road games against Middlebury and Williams. Doesn't that sound like fun?:D

-Last point I'm going to make, how did UW-Superior get four votes this week? They've lost four straight games, the most recent being two three goal losses to St. Norbert. Some people had to think they improved (or someone thinks those losses make them twelfth best in the nation), considering they didn't get any votes at all last week.

That's what I've got to say about the poll this week. I did notice someone say something about Fitchburg State, and I could make an really long argument about why they deserve some vote. Honestly though. As much as I like Fitchburg State, does anyone else really care? (if there are people that really do care, I'll have it done by tomorrow).

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/25

Here's the poll.

1 Oswego (18) 18-1-0 298 1
2 Norwich ( 2) 14-0-3 282 2
3 St. Norbert 15-3-1 252 4
4 Plattsburgh 12-2-4 240 3
5 St. Scholastica 13-3-3 214 7
6 Elmira 14-3-1 201 4
7 Amherst 12-2-2 158 9
8 Hamline 11-3-3 135 8
9 Williams 9-3-2 121 15
10 Gustavus Adolphus 13-4-2 116 10
11 Adrian 14-3-0 101 12
12 Middlebury 7-3-4 83 6
13 Manhattanville 14-4-0 53 14
14 Wis.-River Falls 11-6-2 43 11
15 Colby 10-2-3 39 NR

Others Receiving Votes: Wentworth 17, Curry 13,
Bowdoin 12, Fredonia 5, Wis.-Superior 4,
Wis.-Stout 2

Who the hell is voting for Superior?? and why is Stout lower?

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/25

NCHA bias Part 2.

Although St. Schol had a good showing against Hamline out of conference their next strongest wins were against Salem State (7-6-2) in overtime followed by Lawrence 7-3 (7-8-1). Other non-conference wins include Concordia Mn. 4-3 (5-11-3), Bethel 5-1 (8-11-0) and Northland 13-1 (2-15-0). As can be seen, other than Hamline, their non-conference schedule was not particularly strong. They did manage to lose against St. John's 1-3 (5-9-3) which in my book is comparable to loosing to say a Morrisville.

Stout tied St. Schol twice. Stout's NC schedule had losses to Norwich (9-1) Middlebury (7-3) Augsburgh (5-4) and Gust A (4-1). In other words if Stout can tie St. Schol twice then Maybe just Maybe St. Schol does not deserve to be in front of Elmira, the NCHA is currently overated and/or Stout deserves top 15 consideration.

I somewhat agree. I have been surprised at how much credit the NCHA has been getting all year as it seems weaker than last season. However, CSS this season is typically very good, and I say typically in regards to the UWRF weekend.

Also, the NCHA has the very best interconference record in all of DIII. You can discount that, but you can't entirely negate it. Sure, they don't all play whoppers of NC schedules, but it is what it is.

Next, in my opinion Stout has been too inconsistent to be ranked. SNC loses to Eau Claire, Elmira loses to Morrisville and CSS loses to SJU, but they all consistently win games. Stout goes out and wins a bunch, then lays an egg, then wins some, then lays an egg, then sweeps UWRF, then lays an egg... You get what I'm saying.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/25

I agree with your post 99%, however I feel Stout should be sitting near #13-#15 in this next poll.

It didn't take much to fall off, but it's been a roller coaster trying to inch closer to getting back in. I don't envy anyone who votes in this poll however. The NCHA has been a wild ride of ups and downs this year and it's real tough to judge what's going to shake out in the end. Welcome to the new NCHA with our revised schedule, I think that is playing a big part this season.

Stout hasn't had a cupcake NC schedule with St. Mary's being the exception.

Norwich - 14-0-3
Gustavus Adolphus - 13-4-2
Augsburg - 10-6-1
Middlebury 7-3-4
St. Olaf - 8-5-4
St. Thomas - 6-9-4
St. Mary's - 1-15-1

Combine those games plus a rugged NCHA conference schedule versus playing the likes of CSS and SNC three times this season.

Stout is 3 PTS ahead of UWRF and 2 pts behind CSS. We're currently in 3rd place in the NCHA.

Maybe it will take one more solid weekend, we will see in a few days!

Have you seen a single one of the western teams play....ever? :)

Saying "well, st. john's has a somewhat similar record to morissville....which would fit my reasoning perfectly since they beat elmira...so i'm just going to say they're the same" doesn't exactly work too well based solely on schedule.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/25

What's the reason the Men's Div III poll is always up late? The other three are usually posted by mid-afternoon. It's now 10:00 am the following day and the board is still showing last week's poll.

I believe the D-III men's pollsters usually take the their time getting ballots in and then they have to scramble to fill the poll. This is the story I have heard at least. Either that or they have a later deadline for the D-III men's poll because of this.

I vote in the women's poll and we have a deadline of 2 p.m. on Monday. We have 15 voters. The men's has 20.

Late and the wrong date, still says 1-18-10. No respect for DIII.

Our deadline is 3pm eastern. The poll results were emailed out around 4pm yesterday, not sure what the delay is, something probably got entered incorrectly or improperly formatted.

It's because we all have jobs Norm; not sitting in mom's basement with our star war figures.

So DI fans are financially independent and have the luxury of accessing the internet during the day, while DIII fans (other than Norwich fans) have to work?
