New Poll Predictions for 1/24

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

Hahaha. It's like what you said about Syracuse basketball playing the first 18 regular season games in only two states.

Next year we'll be at Middlebury for the Primelink, Norwich, Middlebury again, Williams, etc. I think Coach said we have 14 home games next year.

and look where that's gotten Syracuse in their last two games. ;)

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

Plattsburgh State vs Plymouth State at a neutral site. Take your pick. :)
PSU will win the game without a doubt!!

Seriously, it will be an interesting game. Plymouth packs it in, forcing you to shoot from the outside. If your forwards outwork their down low gang and get the rebounds, you'll do fine.

Their OOC schedule has been, to quote some other wag, "lightweight", but that does not figure into the equation. If you don't go by the numbers then why have selection criteria at all???

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

It's an example of how respect in the polls is directly proportional to the amount of overweight townies spouting off on your behalf on this board. There remains a team that leads their league and has one loss that doesnt get a single vote so what do you expect? Plymouth State and others dont get free passes the way some teams do which my only point.

I have a vote in the poll and I wouldn't vote for Plymouth State even if they were my alma mater.

Plymouth State has shown absolutely nothing to indicate to me they are one of the best 15 teams in the country. Absolutely nothing.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

I can't fathom how the Cadets stayed at #3. I had them pegged around #7 or 8 I think and that was being generous I thought.

This shocks me also. I dropped Norwich way down in my poll.

Then again, I also dropped Plattsburgh from my poll last semester when they were doing poorly long before anyone else did.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

When you automatically discount so many teams with so little thought it proves what I'm getting at. Is that Brockport team your Cardinals limped by a "junior B midget" team too or are they junior A?

If you really did your homework you would know that there was a lot of emotional things going on at the PSUC campus that day. During the first period of that game most of the players still had their minds on the pregame ceremony honoring the life of a great past Cardinal player. They really turned it on in the second and third periods.

Also, for anyone interested, the definitive speculation thread will start sometime soon I imagine, Josh can take care of that. For those wondering here is my take on how the NCAA rankings would look today based on the numbers.

I understand your pick of Eau-Claire over Adrian with their 4-3 OT win on Nov 26th but if you are using that game to factor into the ranking of these teams, then shouldn't you include Adrian's 4-1 win over Hamline the next day in the same vein?? Why would you rank Hamline so far ahead of Adrian? Puzzling????

It's more than just one game (H2H is only one of the criteria).

My only question is with Marian being ahead of MSOE. I'm guessing SoS has a lot to do with this...?

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

And even so, it's not going to matter from a practical standpoint. It's Pool A or bust for Adrian, Marian, or MSOE. Assuming a 7-4 split, the Pool C is coming from the NCHA. If Adrian goes into the MCHA tourney and pulls their once-a-weekend hiccup that we're seeing more and more of this year, it's going to be fatal.

That is part of it. When looking strictly at a H2H comparison of Marian vs. MSOE, I would agree it would tend to lean in MSOE's favor. Specifically the 2-0-0 record MSOE has over Marian this year. That said, when creating the rankings you don't just compare one team vs. another. You compare them against everyone. Marian happened to beat out more teams than MSOE did in the criteria, hence they were ranked higher. That said, it was very very close. In my results I had Marian winning the criteria over 8 other western teams under consideration (IE: over .500). MSOE only beat out 7 teams (Marian included).

So while Marian may lose out individually in the criteria to MSOE, it never really comes into play because they beat more of the rest of the field.

Additionally, no one knows how the NCAA weights the criteria (this includes the NCAA themselves), so when the rankings come out it wouldn't surprise me to see MSOE or Steven's Point for that matter in the 7 spot. (They were tied with MSOE). The gap is virtually nonexistent.

Five of the top nine teams in the East are teams from the ECAC West. Depending on what happens (of course) I can see an ECAC West team get a Pool B, one Pool C bid...and the other two going to an NCHA team (at the moment Superior) and the SUNYAC (at the moment Plattsburgh).

Does this sound logical?

No flames on your West rankings - they match 1-6 with my computer rankings over on D3WestHockey.com - Since they haven't been published yet (heck I haven't even transmitted them yet), I know you didn't steal them from me

Yep - I understand how the process works. Just somewhat surprising that Marian would be ranked higher, but I guess I haven't looked at the specific criteria for this year.

In the end, neither team has a realistic shot at a Pool B (barring some insane confluence of events), but whichever team is ranked theoretically has a pretty big impact on potential Pool B picks, correct? If, say, Hamline were a "bubble" team, I'm sure they'd want MSOE ranked instead of Marian, for example.
