New Hampshire vs. Boston College Fri Jan 11/Sat Jan 12

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College Fri Jan 11/Sat Jan 12

So you're saying I was right? You only want to base this argument on what you saw Saturday night? The fact you don't understand what top end talent means tells me all I need to know.

J.D. Nick thank for the reasoned replies.

Right now I would take Milner over DeSmith. But Milner is a Sr. and DeSmith a So, so there is time left for DeSmith to grow while in college, at this point Milner is what he is and last spring says that is **** good. I really think they are similar goalies; I don't think either are tremendously "athletic" (what goalie isn't a tremendous athlete) but instead big square in position guys, efficient.

Example I think DeSmith misplayed the Friday night Gaudreau partial breakaway goal. On film he looked to be more to the center ice part of the crease like on a breakaway but the D-man was cutting off Gaudreau so he couldn't cut back. So it looked like positionally he could have been more toward the post and maybe had that one... Saturday Gaudreau tried the same move and DeSmith had it so he got the experience.

I think DeSmith's big issue on Friday was the D let too many passes go across the ice. Fastest way to beat a butterfly goalie is make him move.

On the other hand BC all weekend made it tough to pass across the middle, packing in the center ice (well duh!) which helps Milner.

Completely agree with this.

Completely agree with this.

It was still a fantastic backhander (quick release) so only maybe, Gaudreau might have scored anyway.

It would be interesting to know if DeSmith snatching the same move Saturday was because he had seen it, better position or just dumb luck (shot wasn't as good, glove was a little higher, one players positioning was just a little different). It would be fun to have those two video clips from the same camera angles etc. and put it together frame by frame but the technology at the games isn't that good or consistent.

I think you hit the nail on the head as far as how these two programs approach the results.

BC fans, for the most part, are not happy with a split at all.
UNH fans are elated and are ready to throw a parade.

That pretty much sums it up.

Don't forget J.D. He's happy with the split:D

Yes J.D. BC's TOP end talent and/or bottom end talent didn't show me much Saturday night. Your goalie looked good except when he got totally schooled by Willows! But you could be right BC "undoubtedly" has superior TOP end talent!

They do, their top line is superior to any line UNH rolls out, but UNH has more balanced scoring, not sure what's so hard to understand. What happened friday night?

Shawn I'm not arguing that they are not talented. What you guys apparently are not accepting is that they did not demonstrate it Saturday night IMHO.

No, e.cat. Epic fail on your part as usual. I never once said BC demonstrated anything for you Saturday night. I did not challenge that.

Ha ha ha ha ha. So you're agreeing with me then? I hope the J.D. doesn't stand for Juris Doctor because you would be a complete failure as a lawyer!!!

Interesting exercise... pull the two rosters and start writing down players "best" to "worst" on D and O. Think of it as drafting a team for a limited pool.

My guess is you will find the BC top 5 forwards in the top 5-7 of that list... the other 7 BC forwards would be in the Bottom 8-10. The majority of the UNH forwards fill the middle. Additionally if you could rate them on a 1 to 100 scale with Gaudreau at 100 (I think he is easily the best of the 24) I think you would see a cliff and a chunk of the BC bottom 7 are off the cliff.

D is a bit more interesting I would lean toward UNH having the better D-men, but I haven't really looked at the BC group. TVR the best of the 12? Even though he can get a little selfish with the puck (see last Friday) I don't think I would trade him straight up for any BC D-man... I do think the D comparison is a bit more balanced between the teams I would give UNH the edge but it would look far more balanced than the bi-polar forward comparison.

Carry on:D Too bad we couldn't get Darin and his pinhead side-kick, I forget his handle, to chime in. It would really get comical then. Nick P. is good for a few laughs though I guess:rolleyes:
