New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

And that after they were #1 in the nation last yr on the PP, right? Odd, if nothing else.

They're also missing their 2 best offensive defensemen, and presumably their point men on the power play?

Fair enough. Still, it is not like they aren't generating chances. Sometimes the bounces just don't go your way, either.

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

That's the best game I've seen UNH play...tonight :D

Great win on the road. Hats off to Maine, that was a heckuva game. We just got some good goals at the end there to snag 2 points in an incredibly hostile environment...that's an accomplishment that speaks volumes to the seniors and to, of all people, Coach Umile.

Enjoy Christmas break boys. Let's grab a F#*$ing snack!!!

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

(Cough. Cough.)

:D:D:D:D

An improbable outcome, in my mind, as Maine had the better chances and looked to be the better team on the ice for most of the game. Those 2 games at the Whitt will be entertaining!

Ok, UNH alums/fans, who expected the Cats to be 10-2-4 at the Christmas break with wins @ Miami, @ Cornell, @ BC, @ Maine, and also at home vs BU and a tie vs Michigan and at no worse than the #3 team in the country?? Ok, jokers, put your hands down because NONE OF YOU DID!

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

Pardon my opinion..but I thought UNH played rather iffy...
Thank you to D-money and Silengo. Umile obviously has confidence in the third line.
Maine was everywhere tonight and winning pucks..
UNH is lucky to come out with a win.
Both teams had opportunities to break the game open.

Calling all medics... help needed in Orono. Knowledge of Heimlich maneuver preferred.

Quite the feat... to choke vs. Umile. Timmay!!!!!

No doubt about this, Mainers should never say a word about Umile after watching this game tonight. Hats off to UNH, they were the better team, they played the whole game, Maine watched the last 2.5 minutes. Maines forwards may be as good or better than UNHs but Maines D and goaltending is quite suspect. When a Sr Dman throws a puck up the middle instead of off the boards nursing a 1 goal lead late there is something wrong, did that play cost them the game, no but it didn't help. Freakin lousy ride home. This Maine team is going nowhere without D and they ain't got much

I share your opinion. Maine simply coughed it up at the end. But let's not forget that, once again, Umile was able to rally the team late in the 3rd by calling a TO and pulling the goalie. UNH did a magnificent job to keep the puck in the zone, and then put it in the net past a very young goaltender.

I thought Maine kept UNH off balance for much of the night, with their checking, skating to the puck, and speed. UNH looked slow to me -- perhaps tentative is a better word, and their passing showed it. To achieve a tie, and then a win, after being outplayed for much of the game, and in a hostile environment no less, is a building block sort of accomplishment.

m.a.i.n.e... Maine choked!

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

Ever since UNH tied North Dakota with less than a second to go in the 2009 NCAA tournament, then won in overtime, they have developed a pattern of rarely giving up. Whether they start off slow in the first period or get outplayed in the second, they tend to rally in the end. It's nerve-racking to watch but they have a chance to win or tie in most games they play.

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

I went to a Christmas dinner tonight just as the third was starting. You can imagine my reaction when I got home and saw we had come back. Got to love this team boy. Way to go. That's a huge character win for this team tonight. Going into that environment and beating a good team on their ice in that fashion should bode well for the rest of the year. Way to go Cats!!!

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

Very glad that UNH pulled out the win tonight. It made the horrible ride down 95 just a little bit better.:)

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

I'm not sure I'm digging UNH's strategy of "suck for 2.5 periods, then score some goals", but it's been leading to wins and ties, and few losses, so I guess I'll go with it for now.

Well, at least we didnt embarASS the league the last coupla yearz :D:D
Losing to a league team embarrassed the league? As a 4-seed, taking one of the top teams in the country to the brink of OT and losing on a fluky goal is getting "destroyed"? Tough crowd.

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

The tone in Tim Whitehead’s voice was unmistakable.

The typically mild-mannered University of Maine hockey coach unleashed a brief but impassioned
tirade in the wake of his team’s 4-3 overtime loss to New Hampshire.

He voiced his frustration with his team’s inability to close the door on what seemed
like a sure win over one of the nation’s top teams. He voiced his disgust with what he
believed was a missed call by the officials.

And he voiced the obvious dissatisfaction with the outcome.

“I’m real disappointed in our team,” Whitehead said.
“We had a chance to make it 4-1. We had them down 3-1. We had chances to finish it off
and we didn’t get it done. And again, I’m disappointed in the officials, too. They missed a call
on (Phil DeSimone) in the end, holding (Mike) Cornell when we’re trying to clear the puck. I didn’t
feel they were at their best and I don’t care about saying it.

“But mostly, I’m disappointed in our team. We had a chance. We were up 3-1 and we had a chance to go
up 4-1 and we didn’t make it happen. That’s inexcusable, in a big game like this, not to have their composure.”

As he stormed away from the postgame media scrum, Whitehead continued to express his disgust,
kicking a wall inside the Black Bears locker room as he walked away.

Teams across all of sports reflect the demeanor and teachings of 'coach.' To the extent you can hang a melt down on the Black Bears as a team, you can hang the same on Coach Timmy for his post game tirade. Blame the refs???

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

I can understand why he'd point at that, Fryer is the worst ref in HE and his idiot companion sucks too. But they lost the came because his boys are either out of shape or they just caved to the pressure(ie choked)

I don't get why, with the only game in the league, they'd send up their D squad. I thought the calls/non-calls favored UNH a bit the first 2/3 of the game, but they tried to make up for it late. I didn't see the play Timmy was whining about, but it doesn't surprise me.

We had Fyrer and Keenan (who I think is by far the worst) in a game, and it was brutal...

Case in point ...
Apparently, so too do the fans reflect same demeanor...... ;

Re: New Hamphsire at Maine, Friday 12/10, CBSCS

While I was pretty disappointed at the results, gotta hand it to UNH. They did what good teams do, found a way to win.
