New #1 Team

Re: New #1 Team

What, that I care less about the poll position? I care that the discussion has occupied my Twitter timeline for 2 days and counting. That's about it.
Which is a pretty good indication that the Minne faithful would be kvetching like crazy if QU were in front. You personally might not, but you said, "we" in your post.

All that matters is who is number 1 at the 60 min mark of that Championship game in Pittsburgh.

Indeed. Gophers have been #1 overall seed and lost first round, and been under dogs and won it all, and places in between. I'm more worried about how we're going to be playing in late March and early April then where we're ranked right now.

I haven't seen any Gopher fan on here post that they give a hell about being #1 in the national poll. I have seen many say that they don't. But feel free to keep making sweeping generalizations and assumptions.

Re: New #1 Team

Then I will make sweeping generalizations based on this and past experiences. The discussion has occupied his Twitter feed for days precisely because the rankings matter to many, many Minne fans. And any well-established fanbase for a well-established program will get their shorts in a bunch if they were to lose a close vote for first to a program that may never have even received a single first place vote prior to a few weeks ago. Any well-established program - Wisco, UND, DU, Mich, State, BC, BU, UNH, Maine,.... I don't care which of those programs or a few others you're talking about, many of their fans would go ape5hit losing a close vote to a team that can only be described as a never-has-been. Try re-reading this thread for some reactions from some of those fans. We'd be on page 18 if the vote had gone the other way.

Look at it another way: what would the Minne faithful have said if the depleted BC squad had retained first place after their loss out west? They may not care about having the first place ranking, but they sure as heck would care about not having it when they feel they deserve it.

I don't just follow Gopher fans. In fact, I follow very few. And none of them have discussed it. I'm hearing all the complaining from ECAC fans and media, etc.. So try again.

Dumb argument. Annoying discussion. Let Quinnipiac have the #1 ranking. Enjoy. It means nothing. In fact, so does seeding if you aren't playing well at the end of the year. And if you are playing well, it doesn't matter all that much either. And certainly, a poll in late January is absolutely meaningless.

I'd take a 8th place ranking and #2 seed with a team playing it's best hockey of the year any day over a #1 ranking and #1 seed with a team coasting into the Tourney any day.

He doesn't get it, obviously. The #1 ranking is all about the ego. The Q-pac blog states that pretty clearly. We already have tArrogance so wether we're #1 or #3, as long as we're near the top we are okay. tArrogance takes care of the rest and we know we're the best anyways, so the number doesn't matter. The exception is of UND is above us. Fortunately we don't need to worry about that for a while.

Re: New #1 Team

Don't drag us into this. SCSU is ranked 9th in PWR, 8th in KRACH, 1st in the WCHA, and just took 3 points from UND at the REA. Even so, we're not whining about where they're ranked in the polls. At least, I couldn't care less.

And you couldn't sweep the last place team in the EZAC.

I used to love that game!

LIAR!!! Just admit it, you care! He's found you out, fella, the best thing you can do for yourself is come clean and clear your conscience. Maybe if you rollover on how much scooby cares he'll offer you a lighter sentence. You've got a wife and kids to think about, give it some time, think it over.

Re: New #1 Team

I think the Yale win was strong enough but the tie on Friday might have been enough to hold them back. Good luck on the #1. Always good to have some other programs in the mix.

Most fans enjoy saying their team is number one, but not to the same extent. Yes, if after an 8-1 shellacking, BC retained #1, there would be Gopher fans arguing how ridiculous it is, because that is what people do on these boards. At the same time though, earlier in the season, many Goph fans were arguing MN was rated TOO high based on their play. Your example of BC is a case where two teams met, one dominated, and in your example, the pohls didn't reflect it. With Q and MN, there are two teams playing completely different schedules. With the difference in PWR ranking, I don't think most MN fans would have a problem if Q was put ahead of MN. This is partly because while fans of every team like to have their team in #1, pole position isn't as big of a deal to fans who have experienced it an number of times as well as bigger accomplishments.

Re: New #1 Team

Finally! Quinnipiac nails down #1! I know it's meaningless in the big picture, but still quite the accomplishment. Minnesota can have tArrogance... all we want is tSwagger of being ranked at the top!

It's going to help with recruiting though down the road. They may not get guys that BC, Minnesota, Michigan get but they may be able to steal recruits from the Maine's, BU's, UNH's down the road.

Re: New #1 Team

Talk won't beat Quinnipiac, or even the scorn of internet hockey gurus. It's going to take a solid hockey team having a good game to do that.
