Nescac 2013-14

Re: Nescac 2013-14

Drew Michals debut in net for Middlebury was impressive. Given the uneven goaltending by Midd this season, this is good news. I wonder how much work he will get. Nick Bondurant got the win the night before, but was not the starter for the second game of the tournament. Usually, if you win, the goaltender stays for the next start. Not this weekend. Next weekend against Trinity and Wesleyan it will be interesting to see what happens.

Re: Nescac 2013-14

I was able to attend the Colby-Babson game this past Friday night and came away impressed by Colby's play. Despite giving up an early 2-0 lead, the White Mules gave the Beavers all they could handle. They were two rung posts and one soft goal away from pulling off the tie or win. From what I've seen on webcast this year, Parker seems to be a solid goalie, but he does have a nasty tendency to let in a soft goal at the worst possible time.

Ohio Mule, another player I'd keep my eye on freshman EJ Rauseo, #9. He only has 4 points on the year, but he has scored in each of the last two games and was centering the top line versus Babson. The kid was strong on the forecheck, setting up plays in the offensive zone, and was a consistent nuisance to Babson's breakout. He certainly played larger than his small stature (5'6", 160)!

If you're looking for more Colby Hockey updates between games follow @ColbyHockey and @chall4431 (Colby's assistant coach). Both offer great glimpses into the team between gamedays.

Yes, he's been showing up on my radar, lately.

Thanks for the info tips. I wish Colby had more webcasts. I watch a lot of games on http://nsnsports.net/ to fill the void. A whole bunch of good Div. III teams are on there, plus UVM, which is coming on strong in Div. I.

They're definitely improving, but BC is my DI team. Go Eagles!

I saw Colby beat BC in Waterville during the 1961-1962 season (my Freshman year). :D

The Mules looked kinda flat last night, until they needed that third goal.

I was able to attend the Colby-Babson game this past Friday night and came away impressed by Colby's play.

I attended the Bowdoin-Colby game in Brunswick in late November. There's no question that Colby is a much improved team this year under Coach Blaise McDonald. Except for Nick Lanza (great offensive player!), the Colby veterans leave a lot to be desired in terms of raw talent, but McDonald seems to be getting every player to give his best. The fresh class looks promising. I was very impressed by the White Mules' tenacity. They took the game away from Bowdoin in the third period IN THE POLAR BEARS' BARN, not an easy task. In my opinion, Colby is definitely on its way back.

This Bowdoin graduate selfishly hopes that Colby becomes a contender again. Over the past few seasons NESCAC teams traveling to Maine seemed to focus on Bowdoin. It benefits both the White Mules and the Polar Bears when both teams are contenders, making the Maine trip a very difficult one. I'm confident that this will again be the case in the near future.

Now, if the Polar Bears could get out of their funk...

This Colby alum couldn't agree more. We can't afford to have too many weekends like what happened in early December when Conn Col. and Tufts visited. I always root for the Polar Bears to tenderize the opposition on Friday nights in Maine. And then there's the rivalry... It's always better when both teams are strong.

Re: Nescac 2013-14

Why Colby cannot webcast all their games is beyond me. They have the capability, but I guess a league game against Hamilton isn't important enough to webcast? I don't get it.

This would have never have happened when I was still there. Heck, I was putting Colby v. ECAC teams on the radio (this was pre-video capability).

Re: Nescac 2013-14

And St Mikes is leading UMB 4-2, late in second.
That game does not count towards primary selection criteria (but it's going to make a difference on who is top dog in the ECAC-E). The J&W game hurts Williams for Pool C consideration.

A fantastic weekend in Maine...We need to have more like that. Maybe when Williams and Middlebury come up in a couple weeks... The Colby freshman are really contributing.

Looking at the statistics, it looks like the SR's are carrying the load.

They most definitely are. Very little out of the sophs and juniors, and then four or five freshmen who are really coming on strong. More recruiting like that and a couple years down the road... Who knows..?

Re: Nescac 2013-14

Hamilton reverting to typical post-Xmas form. Lack of discipline (in spite of numerous player coaching suspensions). With such a young squad, system repitition is key. Scoring outside of a few players will not carry the day.
