Re: Nescac 2011-2012
Yeah -- You've got a point -- when your dealing with a limited number of slots per year, you can't afford to blow off a couple of slots every year. Svoboda (on and off the roster) and Kretschmer also disappeared from the Middlebury roster. Most of the other NESCACs seem to be better able to keep their recruits on their rosters. Still, you limit your options when you rule out junior products completely as Middlebury seems to have done -- just look at who the top freshmen contributors in terms of points are this year -- John McGinnis (Bowdoin), Craig Kitto (Williams), Tyler (Voigt), James Albrecht (Wesleyan), Ryan Collier (Bowdoin, and Mike Rowbotham (Amherst), all junior products. There's one only prepster in the mix (Aaron Deutsch-Amherst)
. . . I think Midd's decline, at least within the NESCAC, is more closely linked to the number of highly touted recruits that have disappeared from their roster - for various reasons - over the past couple of years rather than a lack of junior players. Just off the top of my head you have: Bondurant, Dubuc, Vermette, Knelman, and Clayton all of whom were highly sought after by the rest of the NESCAC in most cases. In addition, I know that they lost 2-3 potential impact freshman this year due to financial aid. That's an awfully large number of your limited number of admission slots not contributing.
