Nescac 2011-2012

Re: Nescac 2011-2012

I was at the Colby-SSC game tonight.

Delaney was in goal for the Mules. He played a solid 60 mns, and made a few very nice saves. Both Harff and Smigelski didn't dress for Colby. Don't know why not.

Re: Nescac 2011-2012

Harff is hurt (ankle) and Smigelski was a healthy scratch...Lehman is hurt too (concussion)

Thanks. I finally caught up with the box score and learned my impressions of the game from the video stream without audio were correct. Good for Delaney - his best game of the season... Now, if they could only do something about that power play...

Were those cheerleaders I saw in the lower left of the screen?

I'm trying to watch the Colby Hamilton game on Colby's webcast, but it seems like it is not working. Is anybody able to watch?

Never mind. They just posted a message that they are canceling the Webcast due to a personnel shortage. ****...

Re: Nescac 2011-2012

What happened to Nick BonDurant, Midd's backup goalie? He's not on the roster anymore.

How observant of you, Neumyer. Evidently he broke a team rule and was asked to turn in his equipment. As always, it's "hush-hush"

Re: Nescac 2011-2012

Thanks, now how about Nick Resor? Will he play at all this year? We could use the help!

Re: Nescac 2011-2012

So when was the last time Colby was holding up the NESCAC? Saw the Colby-Wesleyan game on Saturday and the Mules had chance after chance and simply don't seem to have anyone who can put the puck in the net. I saw them earlier in the season and they looked almost confused, which I attributed to the change in the system from Jim T to Moore, but Saturday they just couldn't shoot.

Re: Nescac 2011-2012

Midd benefited from getting Nick Resor back from a concussion sustained in football. He scores two goals in his season debut. Also, not only is Bon Durant gone for the second semester, but Ben Wiggins is too, due to team rule infractions. The redo at Bowdoin today will be huge. Midd needs this game to stay in the hunt.

Didn't happen, did it? Pretty sad showing.... what's worse, though, is the results of the OOC games with Hamilton and Amherst losing to OZ and Utica. The NESCAC presidents have shot themselves in the foot and the whole conference is slowly becoming irrelevant!

I know what will make those presidents feel better.

Just curious as to what you mean about the presidents shooting themselves in the feet -- recruiting restrictions too tight or what???

Not only did they pull out the interlock, but their non-conference schedules for the most part look a whole lot weaker than they used to be. They've kind of pulled themselves out the hockey mainstream.

Re: Nescac 2011-2012

That's exactly what I mean....and what NuProf said.....

The recruiting restrictions at Middlebury seem to be more self inflicted than imposed by the NESCAC presidents -- most of the other NESCACs are still bringing in a mix of junior and prep products while Middlebury relies almost entirely on a combination of prep products and the occasional HS product.

Also Middlebury seems to have decided to really shift to an emphasis on men's b-ball, perhaps to the detriment of hockey when the number of tips are doled out to the coaches

Having no Bon Durant and Yanchek injured didn't help either.

Middlebury having a roster full of prep players, and not junior players, is by choice, not because the admission office or the administration won't allow it. While there is little doubt that the admissions bar for athletes has been raised across the NESCAC, if the more selective Amherst and Williams can find junior players that are acceptable than so could Midd. I think Midd's decline, at least within the NESCAC, is more closely linked to the number of highly touted recruits that have disappeared from their roster - for various reasons - over the past couple of years rather than a lack of junior players. Just off the top of my head you have: Bondurant, Dubuc, Vermette, Knelman, and Clayton all of whom were highly sought after by the rest of the NESCAC in most cases. In addition, I know that they lost 2-3 potential impact freshman this year due to financial aid. That's an awfully large number of your limited number of admission slots not contributing.
