Nescac 2010-11

Re: Nescac 2010-11

I'm very intrigued to see how the two kids from Proctor do.

Both of them put up mega points for their prep school and I'm interested to see how they'll translate over to the D-III game.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it down the weekend Norwich plays at Wesleyan.

Somehow I doubt your work schedule will conflict with that trip. But I could be wrong :P

"Mega points" is drifting into hyperbole. Buehler put up solid numbers with about 60 Prep players posting better or equivalent. Nik Tasiopoulos squeaking into the top 20...which is respectable indeed. In fact worthy of long Dl looks. That said a sub .500 club which played the bulk of their games against inferior opposition and when they moved up to teams like Exeter, St Pauls. Kimball, Pomfret, Andover etc they lost handily. The NESCAC is goaltender heavy with veteran D this year. It will be interesting if they can produce their rookie year.

Is there a 40 spot difference in three points?

2.00 points per game is solid no matter what level you're playing on and I assume these prep leagues can at least skate backwards (unlike me) :)

Re: Nescac 2010-11

Picking on an old man with a sticky "t" key is just plain mean :grr:

I suppose, it is at least in the "range" of "average" for this board so it could be "mean", though some might say it is closer to the "mode". :p ;)

They seem to me to be deviating from board standards, to which I take variance. I just think there is a whole range of snarky responses :D

No doubt good numbers either way, but these are the official stats from USHR for last season: Nik Tasiopoulos F 18 35 53
Keith Buehler F 19 21 40

I have followed Prep hockey for nearly a decade. Yes they can indeed skate backwards. On average placing approx 8-10 guys a year on the NHL Scouting Final Ranking Draft list. That said, there is about 60-65 Prep teams. Formerly Dl and Dll...now all just Prep. There is a large gap between the elite teams and the bottom rankings. In checking the box scores of Proctor against the upper echelons of Prep in which they lost the bulk of their games, a point a game...barely.I am sure these young men are fine hockey players that as I acknowledged put up solid numbers. NOT two points a game..but solid numbers. My quibble was with the terminology "MEGA" numbers. I reiterate, "drifting into hperbole" A tempest in a teapot.

Re: Nescac 2010-11

Okay it all begins this week! Midd will certainly be playing without Martin Drolet who will be property of the soccer team until their tournament run ends. I am guessing he won't be back until 12/3 at the earliest. We may have Nick Resor back since football has ended, although usually football players don't get to play until they have practiced for 2 weeks. I could be wrong, but we may see Nick at the Primelink, but probably not before.

Re: Nescac 2010-11

19 votes so far in Pickem for this weekends games:

Friday:
Bowdoin 19-0 pick over Mass-Bos
Babson 3-1 pick over Colby
Middlebury 19-0 over Tufts
Trinity 4-1 pick over Hamilton
Amherst 19-0 pick over Wesl.
Williams 19-0 over CC

Sat:
Bowdoin 3-1 pick over Babson
Colby 18-1 over Mass Bos
Middlebury 19-0 over CC
Amherst 3-1 pick over Trinity
Hamilton 5-1 over Wesl.
Williams 19-0 over Tufts.

Middlebury and Williams only unanimous picks for the weekend.
Amherst expected to go 2-0, Tufts and Wesleyan expected to go 0-2.
Surprises in store???
I think there is a chance Tufts could upset Williams. Colby and Babson I believe are about equal. Hamilton could surprise Trinity with a road win.

Re: Nescac 2010-11

Tufts beating Midd has to be upset of the week. Williams did what they had to against Conn. Amherst beating Wesleyan, Anderson looking in form. Bowdoin squeaking by UMASS Boston while getting outshot dramatically. Hamilton continuing to look like a factor beating Trinity 3-1. Will be curious to see how the loss to Tufts will affect Midd's ranking.

A few "firsts" for Middlebury this weekend. 1st loss to Connecticut College since '98, 1st loss to Tufts since before that, 1st shutout in opening game since 1940. Unfortunately, that means nothing when they meet Norwich in the Primelink next week.

Unfortunately, I think it means that the Panthers are a bit wounded and cornered, and like my cats, those things get angry when they are like that and they have teeth and claws that can hurt you

Re: Nescac 2010-11

Headed to Hamilton Tuesday. Wanted to see Williams, but with a 4pm, game, I don't feel like taking off any work.
Cortland @ Hamilton. 7pm

Re: Nescac 2010-11

Cortland Hamilton should be a good home n home series. Cortland 2-4-1 playing well against some top teams. Will bring a physical game. Hamilton has yet to show who they are: beat a tough, heavily favored Trinity squad and then lost to Wesleyan. Watched both Wesleyan games this weekend: they were dominated in game 1. In game two vs Hamilton they withstood many Hamilton chances in a non-physical game 2 and beat Hamilton with special teams.

Cortland has a decent sized back line that is experienced, is scoring, but has given up almost 40 shots a game and will be facing a small but fast Hamilton offense. Cortlands offense is putting up 35 shots a game and almost 3 goals a game and has some big boys up front. Should be interesting to see which way Hamilton defines their season. Their defense will need to control Cortland down low and the offense will need to put up scoring chances and crash the net if they are to have a chance.
