Nescac 2009/2010

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

In reference to the suspect roster decisions for Bowdoin, word on the street is Meagher has lost his edge. Just not with it any more. He just never got over the fact that the school doesn’t allow him to park his truck in the “Reserved for fuel-efficient cars only” parking spots in front of the new arena. Poor guy has to walk across the whole parking lot just to get to work.

Sidney J. Watson Arena: $20 million
Leed Certification for New Arena: $350,000
New Coach for Bowdoin: Priceless

Look for Hardy to have huge season. Reich will get a solid 15 points.

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

Tufts Midd tie shots on goal 46-36 for Midd. If Tufts can get 36 shots on goal ..Midd is in for an interesting year.

The macabre season continues

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

Williams coach is a decent recruiter but once the season starts they soon realize he doesn't know what he's doing. Pull one of them aside and if they're honest they'll tell you... they don't like or respect him and more importantly he can't coach. This has been mentioned many times in this forum but for some reason Williams keeps him. Nevertheless, they are getting a great education and will hopefully have decent jobs when they graduate. A talented group of players with a sub-par leader. Hope they do well despite their lack of leadership.

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

I attended the Bowdoin vs. U.Mass-Boston game on Friday. I wasn't able to attend the Bowdoin vs. Babson game on Saturday afternoon.

Some quick thoughts about Bowdoin vs. U. Mass-Boston:

1. Richard Nerland had an excellent game in goal. I was particularly impressed by the way he cut angles. He was victimized by a series of consecutive five-on-threes (for a while Bowdoin had three players in the penalty box) and a bad defensive mistake by the Polar Bears during garbage time (with thirty seconds left in the game).

2. Bowdoin took far too many penalties. This pattern seems to have been repeated in the Babson game. Being aggressive is fine but the Polar Bears can't continue to take bad penalties.

3. Ryan Blossom seems to have regained his scoring touch. This bodes well for Bowdoin.

4. Outstanding game by Kyle Shearer-Hardy. He's a great little player, who always plays with lots of intensity and skill.

5. Among the newcomers, I was very impressed by Dan Weiniger. He appears to be sound positionally and to have an eye for the net. Though he didn't score in the U-Mass game, he had a couple of chances, and I believe he got an assist. I notice that he scored two goals against Babson. It looks like he belongs.

I was at the Trinity Amherst game, both teams are excellent, but Trinity was the real surprise, they are very fast and deep. each line was strong and their goaltending was terrific. Amherst will also be quite good this year, it's a shame these two excellent teams had to meet so early in the season.

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

Trinity to me seemed no better or worse than last year. The difference was Vesperini. The shot count was approx 35-23 Amherst with no home cooking on that. The third period it seemed like he was being peppered. The first and third periods were all Amherst, with penalties in the second Trinity came on. Vesperini stole the NESCAC two years ago and looks in form to start this year. Anderson did his job letting in only one goal on a turnover breakaway. Fun game to watch.

Here we go.. Did your kid get cut? Not getting enough playing time?

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

hmmmm..not sure, though Beyer had a sense for the net and Herd won my award for hustle on the ice last season, always around the puck. Too bad. Perhaps, they'll get a chance to return.

Unfortunately Tommy Herd has a history of concussions, receiving his last one this past season.

Agreed. I feel TRINITY did not look too much improved, but i believe they will do so. they have a young team and some impressive upper classmen. they just need to adapt to each other.. if VESPRINI can continue to play his game, and the team gels a bit more, then i think TRINITY will be a very big threat to any team this season.

That's too bad. Tommy Herd was a kid who more than made up for his average stick skills with his BIG heart. He gave 100% every shift. He also had good speed, which allowed him to be quite effective as a forechecker.

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

Parity?? If not, at the least a more balanced league than we've seen in a while. Williams, Hamilton, Bowdoin, Trinity all look as if they could beat anybody on any given night in the NESCAC. Colby at 2-2-0 and Tufts 2-2-1...Early in the season but eight of ten teams at .500 or better.

Not sure why but I'm a fan of these Tufts sweaters.

After two weekends of league play it looks like parity is the word at least in the NESCAC. Not so much for the ECAC East. Goaltending seems to be the difference in the NESCAC. Barchard has been standing on his head for Tufts keeping them in the discussion. Nerland and Rossi have really stepped up for Bowdoin in net keeping them undefeated. On the other side Anderson has been having a down year for Amherst as they have dropped 2 early. Hamilton also really needs to do something about their goalie situation. If they can do that, they could be very dangerous down the road but not if they continue to let in 5-6 goals a game.

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

Colby is on a role and the team is really starting to click. There just going to get stronger as the season goes on. They will finish in the top three. They are scoring and Mckinney is solid in the net.

Re: Nescac 2009/2010

Great weekend for Colby, I look forward to seeing them play. Tufts is an early surprise, they seem very competitive this year. Early in the season, no team has truly distinguished itself. Although on the other side it looks like Norwich is very strong this year and a good barometer to see who the best NESCAC teams are.
