Nescac 10 - 11

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

10 seconds into a St. A's PP, Curry scores SH for Amherst, 4-1.

Curry picks another pocket, in alone, and it's 5-1.

Did the announcer really say that Curry is coming back from a hip injury and malaria??

4:49 left and coincidental minors, 4 on 4.

Ok DIII people, from the following schools select one that you would send your kid to. Take hockey out of the equation.

Middlebury
Amhersrt
Elmira
Neumann
Oswego

Thank you in advance.....

Given your insensitive comments on the Brown thread..I'm not sure you would be welcome at any of them.

I think admissions is handled by a different thread. You might note Elmira, Neumann and Oswego are playing in another league!

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

By the by, and not to get back to hockey, but Conn College represented the NESCAC with a solid non-conference 5-3 win over UMass-Boston last eveing up in New London. Scoreless 1st with Conn carrying play. Hallett keeping UMB in the game (a nifty stuff of a Dumont breakaway with the right pad about 9 minutes into the 2nd) and Conn holding a 2-1 lead after the 2nd. The 3rd saw play become a bit more chaotic (as the teams potted a combined 5 goals), and Conn just had too much for UMB down the stretch. The Camels have a date (1/25) with Manhattanville and will need to play with more discipline (like eliminate those offensive zone penalties-one in the 3rd when the player in question had the puck on her stick in the slot and managed to get called for an elbow to the head comes to mind) to have success with an equally physical team.

Depends on the "fit".

Have the kid visit all of them. What school feels right & has the right academics for the kid? Location: Does the kid want to be in the middle of nowhere, or close to a major city?

I've only visited and toured Elmira from this list, and it is a tiny perfect school if what you want is a small school with small classes, and you can afford it. The prettiest, oldest campus with great architecture, an optional third semester, and two particularly special programs - freshman writing and encore.
Utica also impressed me for its new criminal justice facilities and programs for the serious future computer fraud fighters and forensic experts, and Norwich if the military is your bent.
Plattsburgh was also all-round good value and nice environment between the lake and the mountains; I liked the smidgeon of French influence there.

As others have indicated, this is about a personal choice and fit. If you take hockey out of the equation here would by my order...

1 - Amherst
2 - Middlebury
3 - Elmira

Pretty sure the basis for the order is clear to most if you have done your homework.

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

Seven games on the conference schedule for the weekend. More snow headed into the northeast, but it is winter in New England; hopefully the buses (and I) can roll tomorrow.

Friday:

Trinity over Colby-Trinity is on a roll and the Mules are not

Bowdoin over Wesleyan-Polar Bears really need to get their game on and start playing up to the potential expected given their total team talent (Sunday at Conn was ugly); haven't seen Wesleyan in a while, but I just don't think this is their 1st conference win of the season

Saturday:

Trinity over Bowdoin-not that the Polar Bears couldn't win this one, just I don't think they will; sort of a contrast with Bantam stingy D and the Bowdoin score some give up some style; the Bantams need to keep winning to stay in the hunt for NESCAC regular season title

Wesleyan over Colby-upset special; just a guess but it would be Cardinals 1st in conference win

Middlebury over Williams-Panthers looked to be back on track against Holy Cross; Ephs have had real trouble scoring

Amherst over Hamilton-Amherst D is the key to their success; Hamilton anemic on the powerplay

Sunday:

Amherst over Hamilton-Lord Jeffs would like to run the table and host the NESCAC finals

Utica over Williams-tough season for the Ephs

Tuesday:

Manhattanville over Conn College-a bit tougher ECAC-East opponent for the Camels; might be a bit of crash and bash going on in New London

Middlebury over New England College-Midd at home on the big Kenyon ice will have too much for NEC

Hello 5 4,

Yes, I agree... comment was out of line, just trying stir things up with the Bears.. cause really they should be in the circus. I apologise if I offended those Bear and SCSU fans. As mentioned, hockey is out of the reason for selecting.

chill pills for all....

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

Was looking at the Bowdoin website, and it looks like they have video of their men's games, but just livestats for their women.... can anyone confirm if this is how they usually work?

I made it to Brunswick for the game this evening. I did watch some of the New England College at Bowdoin womens a couple of weeks back.
GO U BEARS!!!

Re: Nescac 10 - 11

Colby 1
Trinity 0

Final

Shows what I know! When there is a discussion of the relative strength of the conferences, my feeling is this result speaks volumes in support of the NESCAC's being the toughest, top to bottom. You have to play hard every week and there are very few things you can take for granted.

I know you don't need to be reminded, but from last year's results:

Jan. 30 Colby 3 Amherst 2 W

Location: Alfond Arena (Waterville), Waterville, Maine
Amherst (12-2-4, 8-1-3 NS) » Colby (3-12-5, 1-8-3 NS)
