NCAA Semifinal & Border Battle Supreme: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin

Re: NCAA Semifinal & Border Battle Supreme: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin

I was just shocked to see how ordinary UW made BU's top line look (with either the #1a or #1b lines out here on them), which gives me great confidence in them doing the same to the rodent's top lines as well. The differences between the previous 4 meetings and this one is that the UW freshmen have are now pretty much seasoned veterans and are playing to the high level that we had expected. Early in the year they were not. Another factor is ARD, she is on top of her game right now.

So are any freshmen playing significant roles for UM?

Last year when UW played the rodents in the semi's, there was a feeling of "how in the world are we going to pull this off" (and UW had the lead going into the 3rd period, what a shocker that was!)...This year that is not the case. UW has the firepower to score and the talent to shut anyone down. A win Friday just isn't a 10% hope, it's a 50-50 deal.

Kelly Pannek is tied for the national lead in points for freshmen with somebody name Annie Pankowski. Cara Piazza is a major grinder as 3rd line center, and Sydney Baldwin has had stretches of great play on defense, although to me she has been slumping a little as of late.

The Gophers, having been shutout 3 times this year cannot claim invincibility when it comes to scoring. But I am slightly put off by your comparing the UM Gophers to BU:eek:

2012 NCAA Championship Game - Wisconsin erased a 2-0 deficit to tie the Gophers 2-2.
2014 NCAA Semifinal - You said it yourself... Wisconsin had a 3-2 lead with 15 minutes left in the third period.

I expect this year's game to be closely contested as well, and I'll leave it at that.

Twice by BSU, one of those while they were very short-handed with players off at some world games. THat said games with Wisconsin have been close, great games for years, among the very best hockey I have seen in nearly 60 years of watching the game.

Re: NCAA Semifinal & Border Battle Supreme: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin

In the last three weeks Wisconsin has ended the season for St Cloud, UND, Bemidji State, and BU. They have been playing really well and are on a roll right now.

The Gophers haven't been playing as well the last couple weeks but have won a lot of big games the last few years, including Wisconsin this year. The number one seed and obviously they don't have to be afraid of or take a back seat to anyone.

I don't see how either team can lose!

This is really the championship game and the other is the 3rd place game. The game Sunday is just an exhibition.

I'm not so sure. There are three best teams in my book with pretty good odds of any of them walking away with the hardware.

I think the difference is BC doesn't play great D. I watched some BC/BU lowlights and the amount of plays were there is no defender anywhere near the goal was mind-blowing. You don't see UM or UW play like that. UW's first goal against BU was a prime example. Pankowski had time to stop and brew a cappuccino and bake a cupcake before any D got anywhere close to her if she had chosen to. In fact, I saw no WCHA team give UW that clean of a breakaway all year and I saw every home game but 2.

So far the woman doing play-by-play on the video feed has had 'Stick-line' (once 'Strick-line) and Schilipper playing for the Gophers, and McKribbon and Ammerson for the Badgers.

Geez, c'mon! At least learn the names!

You beat me to it. "Stick-lein" shouldn't be happening. It ain't complicated.

Good period dominated early by UW but evening out in the last 5 minutes.

Easier said than done when you don't "know" the players and are trying to quickly put words to the action. Give it a try and you will find yourself tongue tied and mispronouncing names you know.

People manage to do it ALL THE TIME on TV, etc. I'm not being paid to do it; she (I assume) is.

(And there's been an Ammermann playing for UW for - what? - seven years now)

And you think the NCAA hired a pro? Not likely.
