NCAA Quarterfinals

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals

Even before the 5th and 6th UM goals PU had been making way too many mistakes...poor passes...passes to nowhere...passes to UM...(which actually started in the first period) and if all the offense they can muster is the odd shot from 25-30 ft out then they have no answers...too bad...judging from the first period it appeared like it was going to be more of a contest.

And another weak goal by Kessel...Newell should have had that one.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals

Fixed your post ;) . Apps was a little before my time of following women's hockey.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO The sound of the whistle going off at Cheel celebrating another Frozen Four. :) :) :) Wish I could make it to Lake Whitt but ......... I know Clarkson will be big underdogs to BC but I know they will give them everything they can handle.

BC will be out for revenge from a few year ago when Clarky beat them the year they went on to win it.

And suspect Lake With gives a distinct advantage to BC in this matchup.

BC got their revenge last year but could not take advantage of the win ;) .

Time for Clarkson to get revenge for last year. :) After all, who'd a thunk in 2014 Clarkson would beat Minny. Oh I remember who, the Clarkson team. ;)

The gophers were kind and allowed Princeton to score 30 seconds into the game and the, so they would have a nice memory to take home, again with10 seconds left. The rest of the game they just ran them ragged. 6-2 MN

Actually the final goal came with just 2.8 seconds remaining.

You viewed the game on a video stream. I was in the seats with an angle from directly behind Kessel.

Believe me if you want, doubt me if you must, there wasn't anything soft about that goal unless you view picking the absolute top corner stick side over a butterfly goaler as automatically soft.

That's not the goal I was referring to. The one you are referring to was gorgeous.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals

OK, are you referring to the short handed goal? Because shorthanded first overcoming the obvious disadvantages of a single person rush against two defensemen 1 on 2 and having gotten past those two and then pulling to the back hand to get the goaler moving and deflecting back to the 5 hole doesn't seem like a soft goal to me. I will agree that Newell had a chance on that one and didn't come up with the save, but shorthanded beating 1 on 2 and then the goaler doesn't seem like that soft of a goal to me.

I think both her first and third goals were weak but I was specifically referring to her third where she was one on one with the PU defenseman (from a long way out) who seemed to not know what to do and took forever to decide to try to ride Kessel out of the play but by then they were almost in the crease. All three remained on their feet and the puck just slide in along the ice to Newell's right with I think Kessel giving it some small encouraging push with her stick.

Don't know what Newell was thinking on that one...she should have had it. Down into the butterfly and the puck would not have gone in...she may have had one or two bodies fall on her but no goal. It was a weird one.

At that point, I think the whole Princeton team had checked out, including Newell. They totally deflated after Minnesota's second goal and again after the fourth and took about ten minutes of game time to get their heads back into it each time. By the sixth, the Gophers had already scored twice in less than three minutes, effectively ending the game.

OK.

I don't agree.

Kessel's first goal was the short handed goal. I gave my personal view on that in my most recent post. Your description seems to most fit that goal. Except that Kessel pulled it forehand to backhand and then got her stick on it to deflect it five hole, kind of recognizable from your description but not at all as I saw it in the arena. The camera angle for the webstream would have been from the side from which Kessel approached the goal, my seat is on the opposite side. I had a much better view than the camera probably had. Kessel made two late stick contacts with the puck, the last coming at the edge or perhaps even in the crease. If you view shorthanded 1 on 3 with multiple stick touches in the final 5 or so feet as a weak goal we are not going to agree.

Except that you say you were specifically referring to her third goal that you thought was weak.

Kessel's third goal is the one I described in my first response to you. Absolute top corner stick side on a butterfly goaler. Your response was that that goal was a beauty. Now you say it was weak.

I don't agree.

This only leaves the power play goal which you have not yet said was weak.

I don't always agree with you but mostly I respect your viewpoint. On what you have posted so far about Amanda Kessel's three goals tonight I do not agree.

It's ok to disagree but I don't think we are on the same page with respect to which goal was which.

She scored 3 goals tonight...unless I missed something, so, please correct me if that is not correct.

I may not be recalling this correctly but I think her first goal was the shorthanded goal...which I can't even recall right now but thought it was weak at the time...meaning the actual goal...not what she did to get to the net.

Her second goal was the beautiful wrist shot from the left wing 2 hole which I've already agreed was gorgeous...because, it was.

Her third goal is the one I described as the weird one in my previous post that Newell should have had.

That is the chronological order that I recall them occurring in but I could be wrong.

So, no, I didn't change my mind on the wrist shot after first calling it gorgeous. We are just recalling the order in which her goals occurred differently and that might be my mistake...I may have the order wrong.

... why don't they switch rinks since the men will be playing on 200x85 the rest of the way?
Don't know if this was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but that likely to be exactly what they'll do. That's happened before. The two rinks have a connecting tunnel.

Good to know. Again that could work for Minny.
Also Kessel is on fire.

Earlier in the season I believed it was Wisco's to lose to BC.
Kessel=Game changer.

I don't know if it is that much of an advantage, against Wisconsin anyway.

LaBahn is 200x90, so the Badgers are already used to a somewhat bigger ice sheet (and beat the Gophers there twice in Dec), and if Wisconsin thinks they need ice time on a sheet that is bigger still, the Kohl Center is 200x 97. And connected by tunnels, etc.
