NCAA proposing age based eligibility limits

Tom Coughlin

5x NCAA Champ/2x Super Bowl Champ
According to the concept, NCAA athletes would have five full years of eligibility from the time of their 19th birthday or their high school graduation, whichever is earliest.

As far as I'm aware, most freshman are well past the age of 19. Would this completely change the player development model for college hockey?

I wonder if high school graduation means strictly k-12 only or if a post grad-prep graduation would also count. Guys would still have 4 years of playing college hockey even if they play juniors until theyre 20 (cant imagine too many 19 year olds are ready) but the no exceptions part including medical reasons is the real big piece here. My favorite piece of that article is the religious mission exception. You just know someone's going to try and game that exception as soon as someone gets injured.

So the NCAA is setting themselves up for even more lawsuits they will ultimately lose.

Back in the blue line icing era, most freshman were 18/19. The older kids were the Csnadian grade 13 grads and maybe prep schoolers.
