ASU set to hire Dave Hakstol as their new coach. Seems like a perfect fit. The coach that inspired fans to give the one-finger salute to opposing players on the ice going to a program that gives the one-finger salute to its own players off the ice.
In all seriousness, Hak is still a huge upgrade over the previous glorified club team clown. Smart move by him too, because he's probably never getting another sniff at an NHL HC job.

Powers may be scum but he isn't a clown. Pecknold took his team from club to D-1 Tourny too. The guy had something.

We'll agree to disagree on that. As a tactician and evaluator of talent (both recruits and portal transfers), Powers is bottom tier. They only made the tourney or came close in years when they had a good goalie and packed it in around him.

He's as much of a clown as Joe Shawhan was, and they've got more in common than either of them will ever admit. ;)

Pecknold's path was a bit different. His first 5 years he built a legit D2 program at QU that would've walked all over any ACHA club and most USports teams, before moving it up to D1 MAAC/AHA, then finally the ECAC. Success and growth at each stage of his career has led to him earning a pretty long leash, even before he won the natty.

The only real question for Hak, is putting together a staff that can do most of the recruiting legwork in the current era with CHL players and no-penalty transfers. I'm quite sure he'll have zero qualms about recruiting players not already in the portal, similar to Dane Jackson at UND.

Powers and ASU have come to a mutual agreement to part ways, and Hakstol is officially in. Bringing Matt Greene with him as his new lead assistant, while retaining Mullin as another assistant.
