Given the abuse that a doctor got away with during most of that same time, I can’t say I’m shocked. Just sad, disappointed, and angry.
And nobody is realistically around that can actually deal with the consequences of their lack of action.

When the Dr abuse stuff came out, athlete victims camped out front of the president's house for a long time under protest. And there's no real motivation to NOT want to see anyone pay the price for this. Unless they are only doing it for the money.
I'm not questioning what they are doing, but I am going to wait and see how this plays out. Pretty shitty for the university have rules against hazing and let it happen. BTW, at least one frat got banned from campus for hazing.
(and I just don't get the concept of hazing- what does it serve? Other than putting people in "a place" relative to other people- which really shows that the abuser is a worthless person and they only way they get away from that is when they have power over other people)

Perpetrators justify that it is a bonding exercise. It shows how committed you are to the team and your teammates. Which is bullshit. My "hazing" was having to sing the Maine Stein Song at the airport. It was supposed to be more, but I ...uh..."got lost" on the way to the farmhouse.
Coaches often do not know about the bad stuff. It happened right under my nose when I coached high school and I never had any idea. It wasn't until after I had left that it was discovered. It was a sickening feeling.
Not necessarily. Plenty of research out there that shows that if two people have two different paths to the same outcome/reward, one easy path and one hard path, the person who got there the hard way ends up claiming that the reward is far more valuable than the person who obtained it easily. For them to admit that the reward was worth less, they'd have to admit that they wasted all that effort to get it - and people do not like admitting that they made that kind of mistake. Therefore, the reward must have been worth the pain.
So in that sense, hazing probably does "work" in the short term to make the members even more committed to the team, but with the long term consequences of mental health issues and all the rest.
And wrong AF, of course.

They are being weirdly obsessive about trying to paint the situation as ASU did nothing wrong. And not just in this thread but also, for some reason, in the UAA thread on the D1 side.
And the post wasn’t even by me. Another UAA poster mentioned that it was rumored that ASU might not play this season and talked about how UAA is scheduled to play them this year. All of the sudden this person leaps in ranting about “plaintiffs lawyers” and “don’t believe the media”.
Fucking weird.

I haven't read anything about anyone being obsessive about trying to paint the situation as ASU did nothing wrong. What I do see is a lot of people obsessively painting ASU as being guilty until proven innocent based on hearsay and not fact nor reality. Seems like a lynch mob mentality going on, but just my objective observation.

If the players on the current team are contemplating not playing, that sure seems like there is merit to the complaints.
They are the ones in control of the rest of the season, since it will take a lot of time to litigate this.

Since other schools are wondering, seems kinda ominous.
Before sticking your neck out too far, you may want to just wait to see what happens. That’s what I’m doing with the accusations against our program. I hope they are wrong, but am not assuming they are.
