NCAA Hockey - 2023/24 **Insert Witty Tagline**

Yeah, the Cullens AND Conboy. Three kids whose fathers played for SCSU.

I doubt the Cullen thing truly hurts though, as I’m guessing most assumed they’d all end up at a Michigan school.
The Gooher Conboy’s father grew up In Rosemount, as did I. His grandfather played football for U of Northern Iowa, and was my football coach. He trained those kids since they were young, with two of the boys making it onto D1 college hockey teams, and another onto a lower level DI football team. Now the next generation is going through the same.

He’s definitely got that thing you can’t teach. A 6’ 3” 190lb. 16 year old is crazy.

Big Ten is changing the tournament format. Scrapping the best 2 out of 3 first round and moving the first round to a single elimination on the Wednesday before the semifinals. Takes the tournament from 15 days to 9 as well as shortening the time off for a team eliminated in the first round who also made the NCAAs.

First round is on Wed Mar 11, followed by the semis on the 14th and finals on the 21st.
The NCHC changes to the now old B10 format this season. I'm kind of surprised that coaches were fine with nixing the first round series because one game can be so coin-flippy.

When his dad was at SCSU, I remember watching the pregame show for one of the SCSU/Gopher weekends. Woog talked about running into Timmy without his shirt on, and called him a giant block of muscle, and then went on as only Woog could. 😃

I’m sure the last two years played a part in that. The 2nd seed got upset the last two years by the last place team, which caused Wisconsin and co-champ Minnesota to sit for three weeks, who then dropped their first round NCAA games.

Of course, both lost in OT while MSU required OT to win their opener in 2024 and then lost last year, so the correlation/causation isn’t there, but I’m sure coaches don’t like throwing whats essentially a second winter break in right before single elimination starts.
