NCAA Frozen Four: UMD vs. Minnesota -- the Sibling Rivalry

Re: NCAA Frozen Four: UMD vs. Minnesota -- the Sibling Rivalry

Since Ridder is their home ice, will the Gophers get free reserved seats for Sunday's championship game ...
Yes, the NCAA reserves a players bench for teams competing in the championship game, so don't you worry your poor head about the Gophs.

Re: NCAA Frozen Four: UMD vs. Minnesota -- the Sibling Rivalry

The gopher is fine, it is the crazy human dancing with it that might be a problem.:D

Now I wish I'd gotten a picture WITH said Gopher

Re: NCAA Frozen Four: UMD vs. Minnesota -- the Sibling Rivalry

I'm sure ARM can confirm this, but I believe that besides playing 6 times in one season, the only time UMD's beat Minnesota 4 games in a season was 02-03? It's time to change that statistic and remove the 'only' from it. 4 times in a season, let alone 4 times in a row would be an accomplishment in itself.

I'll say 4-2 UMD as they continue to "surprise" people and confirm Coach Miller's D1 coach of the year qualification. The third line for UMD will step up as they did against New Hampshire and create a goal.

That's correct -- UMD won the head-to-head 4-1 in 02-03. That's the last season that UMD enjoyed an edge in the H2H, and Minnesota can still get a push this season with a win on Friday. The Gophers had their only 4-win year against the Bulldogs in 03-04, winning the last four in a row.

To get ready for this weekend of hockey .. I'm shooting BASKETBALL tonight and probably tomorrow night as well. :D Good thing UMD/NoDak play Thursday night on FSN so I can get back into hockey mode!

If UMD wins, does that present you with a dilemma regarding what to watch on Friday night? I appreciate the fact that Gopher men's BB is early on Friday, so I can watch that w/o any hockey sacrifice at all.

I'll be at Ridder regardless.. just got the credential info.. so I'll be lugging the camera around (though not exactly as freely like the WCHA since there are 'assigned' shooting spots for this weekend.) I should bring the laptop to the arena too but I'll probably keep it at the hotel (at least for Friday night's doubleheader.)

I do want to see the Gopher basketball game after they beat Michigan State and Purdue...my bracket has them beating Xavier but losing to Pittsburgh. I just realized that's an 11:25 game... so I may just be listening to it on the radio...

If any UMD team can win the 4th it's this one! This team has not really let any game get out of control except for the OSU loss. They can and will keep it close . . . and they've done a fairly good job of getting the big goal when they need it. The UMD D has been the one consistent thing this season and if anything I think they'll play it more conservatively . . . wait for the opportunities to present themselves and take advantage. (Unlike past seasons when UMD takes big risks on offense . . . )

I just watched the 2008 championship game again on DVD and boy, am I in the mood for a repeat! :D

After that brutal, cheap check-from-behind mauling against Minnesota's Kevin Weirs, I'll be pulling for UMD all the way on Thursday night. For Saturday's women's game, I'm expecting a stellar, shut-down Gophers performance that will end UMD's season.

Minnesota 3, UMD 1.

Just figured I'd get loud for a second ;)

I didn't see it.. but my latest post goes for both UMD teams :D

"The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today (March 15, 2010) announced a one-game suspension to University of North Dakota hockey player Matt Frattin as a result of his actions in the March 13 game vs the University of Minnesota."

***! That should probably have been more than 1 game...the intent was obviously there.

The hit may have been a lot of things, but it wasn't a CFB.

I like your prediction, but I hope it comes on Friday night, because Saturday's an off day.

When they showed it on replay in slow motion, it certainly did appear to be from behind. In any case, there was obviously intent to injure, and they need to do more to stop this stuff in the college game.

:o  :o

With the 6th game of the season looming.. I think we're having a bit of trouble coming up with enough to talk about for the game :D It even seems 'tame' right now :P
