NCAA Frozen Four 2012 - Cornell vs. Minnesota

Re: NCAA Frozen Four 2012 - Cornell vs. Minnesota

I don't see how the Goofs lose this one . . . unless they are totally out of synch . . . or run in to a Cornell team playing at it's very best.

Re: NCAA Frozen Four 2012 - Cornell vs. Minnesota

So it would appear that the Gophers will start the game with the following line combinations:

1. Bona - Schoullis - Kessel
2. West - Davis - Erickson
3. ???? - Terry - ????

On No. 3 I assume that Lorence will be one of Terry's wings but who will be the other? I would guess Kortum assuming she's cleared to play; otherwise probably either Anderson or Brausen would fill it out. And that still leaves Downey and Ludwigson, both of whom have only gotten better as the season has progressed.

Comments?

Haven't seen Downey suited up for some time...don't know if I missed a recent return?

I really would hope that Kortum is available. Like the play of Brausen lately...throughout the 2nd half actually. Anderson playing more confident and appears to be elevating her game lately as well. Either way you get a 3rd line with some jets...a 3rd line that can dominate their counterpart could be a big positive factor. Taking advantage of their depth with contributions from all pretty key against a team like Cornell. Really want to see a strong backcheck from everyone up front on Friday...and as "Sweet Lou" often says...support one another. Also think his frequent point about passes hitting the tape at speed is a strong requirement in games of this magnitude. Fairly confident about the rest taking care of itself with the way they've played lately.

Edit: I think being tight and nervous is one of the obstacles to making those crisp passes in big games...and crisp play in general. Hope the upperclassmen can promote some calmness and keep the team loose.

The third line was Terry centering Brausen and Kortum until Kortum got hurt. Lorence and Anderson have alternated as the second wing while she has been out.

No, you haven't missed anything. She's taking time off from hockey for personal reasons that I do not know. She was at the team banquet at least. I hope she comes back next year, as it allows me to put my Downey #3 jersey to better use.

At times this year, it's been the other way around. We graduate about half of our penalty minutes, and there have been some dumb ones.

What is Cornell's sniper power looking like? Noora is so dang good, Cornell will have to shoot, shoot, and shoot like never before to increase the odds of solving her.

They are the highest scoring team in DI in GPG, so it must be pretty good. Should be a fun game -- I just hope that I still think so when it is over. :o

Umm, I just looked at the Cornell roster and was absolutely floored. It's basically Team Canuck. Is that legal? I mean fifteen Canadians? Really?

I really don't see how the Gophers win this one.

You have to get her constantly moving side to side with someone always parked at the back door.
