NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

You sir have some serious issues here?

Not at all, sir. You said the women's program would never rise to the next level. I said the highest level they can achieve is a national championship and that they've done it five times. I then reminded you that's five more times than the men have risen to the next level. No issues here. Maybe the men's program has issues to work on. :D

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Cornell was amazing. Absolutely amazing. Their fans were amazing, too. It was hard to have a loser at all last night. Congrats to them upsetting #1 Mercyhurst, as well as working hard the rest of the season, to get to the top. They are certainly at the top.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Hey women's hockey hater, you realize UMD has eight Americans, right? And you realized UMD has a kid from Madison and another from Minnie in a small recruiting class for next year coming in, right? I love when the men's supporters who know NOTHING about the women's game start piping up instead of just being happy another title is coming to Duluth. Instead, you show how bitter and jealous you are because are men's team chokes down the stretch and can't even MAKE the tourney when they clearly were right in the mix just a month ago. And new chancellor or not, Miller signed a hefty contract THROUGH 2012. So no matter how much you or anyone hates her, she isn't going anywhere. Get a clue before you start throwing things around. Go back to the men's side and your little cave. Women's hockey has really arrived. And as a side note, through all six periods of that game yesterday, I saw the UMD players each reach up and hit hands with all the young fans standing by the hallway near their bench. It was great. Even after the second ot, where kids were clearly tired, they all kept giving high-fives to the players. I didn't see Cornell's bench, but something tells me they probably did would have too. And I thought, this, right here is the difference between the women's game and the men's. The women appreciate their fans and it is why us converts from the men's game appreciate them right back.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

I started going to UMD men's games, as a teen, before there was a DECC. I have had season tickets since the early 80's. I also have had season tickets for the women's game since 2000. When I had to choose between men's UMD/UMTC or women's UMD/ND as both were being played at the same time slot this year I choose to see the women's game.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Well .. . what can be said? Two teams - all heart and pure guts. It felt like an honor to bear witness.

Congratulations Cornell.

Congratulations UMD.

(The applause and standing ovation during the post-game handshake line felt like the most sincere gratitude a crowd could give.)
Well put. That was an unreal game. I think Cournoyer would've lost about a years sleep if UMD had lost. I think she missed winning the game in the first overtime by about 8 inches before the Cornell defender pulled it off the line. Both teams' fans and the game in general made a great showing for the potential for NCAA women's hockey game.

When that golden opportunity at the start of OT wasn't converted after the 4 or 5 point blank chances that the 'Dogs had to end regulation, and then when Wong hit the crossbar in OT, I thought perhaps it was one of those times where UMD just wasn't meant to win. Then they got the slightest of breaks when the player out of the box started to the bench, and that was all it took.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Geez, can the NCAA do anything right when it comes to video? If it's not live (crappy) video feeds starting ten minutes after the game is in progress, then it's highlight video with the audio ten seconds behind the picture. I realize it's not men's basketball and therefore the NCAA probably doesn't consider it a "real" sport, but come on. I hope they put a little more effort into the DVD. I shot from the stands and got better video than they did.

The Audio and Visual were out of synch on the live feed on Sunday from CBS Sports, I'm guessing by about 3-4 seconds. It was not too bad during the game, but most annoying during the interviews.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

I've posted a few photos from the championship game. Will have some from the UMD-MN semi up in the next few days. Spent a lot of time cheering (am hoarse today) and am not as mobile, so did not get as many shots as I might have liked during the action, but hope you enjoy. As usual, use the link below. Thanks.

You sir have some serious issues here? Did you really just take a line I said about womens hockey OVERALL and apply it to rip the mens program at UMD, if so, wow good one! Try to remember the funding from that mens program is the only thing keeping that womens program going. And as long as Shannon Miller continues to basically hate American players she won't have a job long. Now that her biggest backer, Chancellor Martin is gone, it is only a matter of time before the way she treats the athletic staff at UMD to catch up with her and be out the door. You do realize that none of the top end USA talent even talks to that lady because of the way she treats them, right? Or is that not one of the dirty secrets you are aware of?

As for the mens program, quite a bit more teams recruiting the top talent. Mens D-1, you have 7 schools in the area going for the talent that in the womens game only 2 are. In fact, she gets so out recruited here, she doesn't even bother anymore.

Well put. She is basically an outcast and a punch line on campus because of the way she treates her co workers. Would the men's team get away with bringing in pro players and STILL giv ethem free schooling after they can't play? Would the mens team be allowed to get away with the garbage she lets go on in the locker room? Would the mens team let UMD staff have "relationships" with their players? I truly believe that womens hockey would be a bigger draw in Duluth without Miller. And remember, you can be a womens hockey fan and not be a Shannon Miller fan. GO (both) BULLDOGS!

I gave up debating these guys two seasons ago..

The argument that the UMD women would draw better with a different coach is a joke.. the team wouldn't have the banners, rings, and trophies they have without Shannon's recruiting and coaching abilities. Fielding

Sure, there's been *SOME* local talent who were overlooked or just chose not to stay and play for UMD, but not nearly enough to be winning national championships with. People complain that scholarships don't go to Minnesotans.. but then we have players like Kacy Ambroz (from New Prague) who ARE on a pretty big scholarship and are thriving under Shannon Miller's coaching.

Maybe the men's program would be better off without Sandelin. If he was ever more than a mediocre coach, those days are long gone.
