NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Great game. Glad to be able to watch it on the West Coast. I think the 2nd OT belonged to Cornell and the 3rd to UMD. I'm glad the refs put their whistles away and that the game was won on a good play instead of some crappy mistake. Congrats to UMD.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Penalty call aside, UMD had the better clear cut chances the deeper it got into that third period of OT. They hit the post on a nice tip in attempt earlier, and Mazotta made some prime time saves including the one where the UMD player plowed into her on a quick bang bang play.

Agree on the other assessment. FANTASTIC end to end action. Congrats to both teams on a fantastic final game.

I don't disagree at all. Like someone else had stated, Cornell owned the 2nd OT and UMD owned the 3rd. Experience and a bit of luck won the game. The penalty call did not factor into the win at all.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

...it will never get to the next level. Just my honest opinion.

What level exactly do you expect them to get beyond after winning five national titles? That's as high as the level goes and it's five more national titles than UMD's men's program has. Maybe it's the men who ought to put more effort into getting to the next level. :D

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Cornell impressed the hell out of me today. Yes, I'm happy the Dogs are bringing home another title, but the East Coast was very well represented at Ridder today! Lots of Big Red fans at the arena made it a great atmosphere for hockey, too. A great game, great crowd and some great hockey...does it get any better than this? :D

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

OK, so I was wrong in my score prediction :D After seeing that game I'm glad I was way off cause that was one hell of a hockey game.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

For the people who recorded the game on DVR, I sure hope you all set it for a couple hours past the scheduled end 'just in case!' I know at least 1 person who was there that didn't.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Isn't Ruggerio miles above AJ ?

Actually, I though Cahow in the MH/Cornell game was miles above all the other female commentators in all the other games, whether NCAA games or Olympic broadcasts on either side of the border. Hands down better.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Do you really think it should have been let go?

I'm pretty sure I never said it should have been let go.

Then again, I disagree with the refs swallowing the whistle in overtime. A penalty is a penalty, whether it occurs in the 1st minute or the 101st minute. Period.

The more egregious referee decision for me was the extremely weak call to match it up in the 1st OT.

Ya I didn't get what that penalty was. I thought the first call was a little weak as well however.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

The player needs to be attempting a shot at the time of the infraction. Otherwise, it is just a penalty.

No....it just has to be a clear-cut scoring opportunity on what would otherwise have been a clear breakaway that was taken away as a result of an infraction by the last defender.

You sir have some serious issues here? Did you really just take a line I said about womens hockey OVERALL and apply it to rip the mens program at UMD, if so, wow good one! Try to remember the funding from that mens program is the only thing keeping that womens program going. And as long as Shannon Miller continues to basically hate American players she won't have a job long. Now that her biggest backer, Chancellor Martin is gone, it is only a matter of time before the way she treats the athletic staff at UMD to catch up with her and be out the door. You do realize that none of the top end USA talent even talks to that lady because of the way she treats them, right? Or is that not one of the dirty secrets you are aware of?

As for the mens program, quite a bit more teams recruiting the top talent. Mens D-1, you have 7 schools in the area going for the talent that in the womens game only 2 are. In fact, she gets so out recruited here, she doesn't even bother anymore.

OMG!!! What an unbelievable hockey game! Boy, am I ever thankful that I set my DVR to record the extra 2 hours. Great back-and-forth hockey the whole way through.

Congrats to UMD for their win and to Cornell for an epic season. Both teams should hold their heads high after that game.

Got the whole game. I'm willing to discuss with any Bulldog fans. I don't have a DVD burner, so you'd have to make do with a cassette. :o

But given the result and my alma mater loyalty, I wouldn't mind if it was blown away to make room for something else. There's not a lot of room left on the DVR.

Not to feed the troll.

Do you really expect the new chancellor to let Miller go?

New Chancellor: "Excuse me coach Miller, I know you have won 5 national titles and lead the best women's program in the country, however, the other coaches are upset. So I have decided to fire the coach of the one program that has consistently brought recognition to our school for the past 10+ years. Eventhought UMD wouldn't be on the map if it weren't for our women's hockey program."

Shannon Miller: "Ok...I'll take one of the 20 job offers I get a year!"

I have a DVD burner and nothing but time on my hands. Just saying...

I recorded the NCAA BB recap or whatever the heck they had after it as well for my insurance. I didn't want a 6 hr recording of the game on my DVR if it ended in regulation.

Re: NCAA Championship Game: UMD Bulldogs vs. Cornell Big Red

Well .. . what can be said? Two teams - all heart and pure guts. It felt like an honor to bear witness.

Congratulations Cornell.

Congratulations UMD.

(The applause and standing ovation during the post-game handshake line felt like the most sincere gratitude a crowd could give.)
