National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

That also gives them 6 National Championships.

Does that work in reverse? Does Mankato also have 6 titles?

Yes. And we've made the Frozen Four 4 years in a row. And last year, weirdly, we shared the McNaughton with ourselves.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

The issue here is simple, one program has something that they feel that they can look back upon with pride, and SOME of another rival program's fans, being a bunch of disrespectful homer losers want to TRY to rob and steal this from their hated rivals, they want to TRY to deny that its something that pride can be felt about.

It's akin to the LOSING team claiming the winning team doesn't deserve to be prideful about winning, because the refs screwed the losing team out of the win.

It's POOR sportsmanship.

It's weak, its lame, its pathetic.

It would be EQUALLY AS LAME for a fan of Minnesota to try to put down UND as a program for NOT relying on home grown talent, as the reality is that the population of North Dakota can not realistically support a National Title winning program without looking outside of its borders to find enough quality players.

But, part of the reason for this is that while UMn was struggling to win Natl Titles, because of their stance against recruiting Canadians and their trying to recruit mostly if not only Minnesotans, UND was NOT doing anything to encourage or build up their states hockey situation, so here we are decades later, and North Dakota STILL has to rely on getting recruits from Canada and other states, while Minnesota is NOW benefitting from their earlier efforts because they have plenty of good Minnesota grown hockey players to choose from and wouldn't have to go outside of their state borders if they didn't want to, but unlike in the past, they don't need to help the state's hockey situation anymore, so now they CAN recruit out of state on occasion.

And the thing is, while UND's reward for their efforts has been 7 NCAA titles compared to UMn's only having 5 specifically NCAA titles, they needed a Golden Gopher to help them win their last 2.

AND, Minnesota has been rewarded for their efforts with OVER TWENTY former players in the US Hockey Hall of Fame, while UND has what? 2 or 3?

20+ vs 2 or 3

16-17 that got in on their own right, and another 6 or so that got in as a part of a Gold Medal Winning Olympic team for Minnesota.

So some of the more lame and pathetic UND fans may not appreciate what UMn did and still does to a degree when it comes to recruiting, but USA HOCKEY seems to appreciate what UMn did and does, apparently.

And when the US wins another Gold Medal, my guess is it will be the University of Minnesota who will be getting some pats on the back from the US loving loyal media...

NOT the Nazi sympathizing, Native American disrespecting, No name, Canadian loving, One Tree State University of North Dakota.

;)

Fred, you forget that when UND plays they have to beat both the opponent and the refs. This is common knowledge.

It's the homegrown talent and all the pride it entails that allows UND to persevere and defeat both the opponent and the refs time after time.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

As a hockey fan, you're a fool if you compare scores like that. You should also know that hockey is a game where the better team doesn't win nearly as often as it does in other sports; especially in a one and done format.

And you're a fool for reacting to trash talk as if it were a serious prediction. ;)

btw, are there participants in the "homegrown" argument that think they're the only ones doing the trolling? :D

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

And here i thought it was the tin foil halos.

And that misguided belief is why Minnesota will never be able to match UND when it comes to Homegrown Pride on Ice.

Minnesota fans just don't get it and never will.

btw, anyone seriously arguing the 'homegrown' bit is lame - no matter the side. There are tons of interesting troll topics to discuss, that isn't one of them. :D

It's funny because it gets many of the Gopher fans all in a tizzy.

This is why I miss this rivalry...no other fanbase gets so worked up about such idiotic issues. :p:D:D

Nope. I think plenty of UND posters here are just as wrapped up in it and can't let it go as Jdubbs, and as far as fan bases getting worked up over trivial s**t is concerned I refer you to ss.come. According to there Lucia is the anti-Christ for not calling this game WWIII. :D

If you say so... :p:D:D

The forums on siouxsports.com are awful. I do enjoy the main site though for access to the different blogs and twitter feed.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

So, does official hockey talk start tomorrow, or still too soon for everyone?

I'm kind of interested in hearing what UND fans think their team needs to do well to win and what they need to stop the Gophers from doing to be successful Thursday night. Thoughts?

I think the Gophers need to continue to play strong in their own end (defense supporting each other and forwards getting back), continue to forecheck hard and get to the net. As for what I think the Gophers need to do to prevent UND from being successful, I think the Gophers need to solve UND's strong neutral zone play by completing short tape-to-tape passs to get thru the neautral zone with speed and avoid making it easy for UND to block shots by continuing to move and not play stationary hockey in the offensive zone. And again, get bodies fo the net!!

Sioux need to make that first pass to transition out of the zone effectively. If they get caught chasing in their own zone for extended periods of time, it's all over. The gopher offense is too good, even if Gothberg is playing well.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

It's funny when Dirty tries to pretend he is intelligent.
It's sad when Gopher fans indulge him. :(

It's funny when FS23 pulls things out of his *** to give support to Dirty.
It's sad that this time I think he may actually believe in the nonsense he has extracted from his rear. :(

People who honestly try to suggest that Plymouth, South St. Paul or Hopkins (to name just a few) aren't part of the MPLS/St. Paul Metro should be ridiculed and then wholly dismissed as promptly as possible.
