Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

$100 says the Gophers seriously consider wearing the gold sweater.

Going out on limb here, but are ND and Minnesota rivals or something?

According to Gopher fans, UND is the little brother that always looks up to Minnesota. They have "moved on" to Michigan, Penn State, and Becky. Of course, if you went to Gopher Puck Live, they talk more about UND than any other program outside of their own.

But lets analyze the little brother syndrome:
UND: more national championships (7>5)
UND: most consecutive NCAA hockey appearances (12>3)
UND: more attended over the last ten years than Minnesota at home and probably a better traveling fan base
UND: more WCHA championships, NCAA appearances, and Frozen Four appearances since Hakstol took over
(cue in the UND chokes in the tournament individuals)

Somebody please tell me the Gophers are a more relevant and important program?

So, despite all the Gopher fans superiority, I still believe we are their greatest rival and these teams are EQUALS in hockey. Not one more successful than the other. I doubt Gopher fans have already forgot UND.

Ummm.... The Gophers probably pull twice the TV ratings. Game attendance isn't the be-all-end-all, especially when the venues for the programs don't seat the same capacity. And don't need to when one program dominates TV viewership. A fact you like to conveniently ignore, but the revenue generated by each program clearly proves.

And instead of selectively listing all of those achievements based strategically on time frames that make your point, try relisting and include all-time stats. Including the head-to-head record :)

That said, nothing but respect for the UND program. Looking forward to this game. No team i'd rather see the Gopher's face on this stage. Game is going to be unreal. They always are when these teams meet.

UMn has sent TWICE as many players to the Olympics compared to UND. 54 to 27.
UMn has sent EIGHT times as many players to the US Hockey Hall of Fame compared to UND. 16 to 2.
UMn has been to the NCAA tournament 35 times, compared to UND's 29. 35 to 29.
UMn has been to the NCAA tourney 30 times in the last 40 yrs, compared to UND's 23. 30 to 23.
UMn has won 54 NCAA tourney games, compared to UND's 46. 54 to 46.
UMn has been to 16 Frozen Fours in the last 40 yrs, compared to 13 for UND. 16 to 13.
UMn has had 4 Hobey Baker Winners, compared to only 2 for UND. 4 to 2.

Now I'll go and look up a few more.

My guess is UMn's contingent in the NHL has probably scored 3 pts for every 2 that UND's contingent has scored.
