National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

What's the deal with the dinky town riots? Was that for the hockey game or NIT championship?

What riots? Some kids left the bars and partied on the streets. Cops picked about a dozen out and arrested them. No great destruction of property or anything. In 2002 and 2003 there were riots, not last night.

ETA: Oh, burd, I didn't agree he won his match. Yeah he effectively trolled some noobs, but that's about it.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

My favorite part about the amazing goal was how smart Holl was to know how much time was left and know that he could join the rush without having to worry about UND being able to score. He doesn't do that we might still be in OT. This surpasses Wheeler's goal at the Final Five as the most amazing Gopher goal I've ever seen.

Holl has earned his keep by doing whatever the coaches have asked of him. I've found myself several times over the past four years shaking my head at some of the things he messes up. But overall he's been a solid player.

But, he was a standout last night. He made 3-4 breakout passes that were simply outstanding. In a tight spot, threading a needle, and he put it right on the forwards stick allowing him to keep stride and momentum into center ice and the UND zone. I have never seen Holl play like he did last night. No one deserved that goal more than him.

Hey, I thought we all agreed Dirty won his match? He's entitled to a day off.

I am sure him and Hakstool are comparing team notes, and wishing they could party in Dinkytown.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Any over/under bets on when the "Fire Hak" thread will reappear?
I don't really think so, at least not seriously. Even the haters have to acknowledge that Hak and his staff did a masterful job yesterday getting the team ready to play Minnesota. There will always be trolls who want to try to fire up the subject (I see even Chris Dilks felt the need last night) but I suspect it may go quiet for awhile on that front.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Amazing game last night! Kudos to both teams andcoaches,
But to be terribly honest, I didn't want either team to win.:p

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Union also has 6 losses. Either this is a sign of the Gophers winning the national championship, or Satan is about to rise up...I'll reluctantly hope it's the first option :p:D:D

I thought they were one in the same. Evil little rodents.
Congrats on a thrilling win and "unusual" way to end the game.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Congrats to all the Gophs. Instant classic. Glad I got to see it. Either team could have won and both were deserving. Good times.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Oh boy, this is going to get ugly. :D

Jim Carr: Hi, Jim Carr again. Denis, I know that some in our audience don't know the finer points of hockey. Could you tell them, for example, what is icing?

Denis Lemieux: Well, um, icing happen when the puck come down, bang you know, before the other guys you know. Nobody there, you know. My arm go comme ça then the game stop then start up.

Jim Carr: I see. What is high-sticking?

Denis Lemieux: High-sticking happen when the guy take the stick, you know, and he go like that

[high-sticks Jim Carr]

Denis Lemieux: you know. You don't do that.

Jim Carr: You don't do that?

Denis Lemieux: Oh no, never, never.

Jim Carr: Why not?

Denis Lemieux: Against the rules. You know, you're stupid when you do that. Just some English pig with no brains, you know.

Jim Carr: Uh, what is slashing?

Denis Lemieux: Slashing is um, like that

[demonstrates on Jim Carr]

Denis Lemieux: you know.

Jim Carr: Mm-hmm. And there's a penalty for that?

Denis Lemieux: Yeah and for the trip also, you know like that

[demonstrates]

Denis Lemieux: . And for hook like this

[demonstrates]

Denis Lemieux: . And for spear, you know, like that.

[demonstrates]

Denis Lemieux: You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free.

Hak is exactly where Woogs was after 10 years. Woogs was blamed for having all those Minnesota kids. I don't know Hakstols excuse, he has had more talent, just can't get it done.

Not enough over aged Canadians and finally letting Minnesota kids be on the team.

Hak has definitely not been a finisher, but his overall record and NCAA and FF appearances are probably as good as anybody other than York. But, you know, when the year is over many fans remember the last game and forget the rest. He impressed me this year, and I think he is learning to loosen up a little with his players in playoff time.

actually, he is as good as woog.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

That ain't saying much

So you are saying Woog was a bad coach?! LOL Not very many teams actually go on to accomplish the feat of winning a Natl Title. And few schools go on to make 4 straight Frozen Fours and I don't know that any of Woog's teams every lost a first round NCAA tournament game, either. That's 6 Frozen Fours and 12 Elite 8 appearances in his first 12 seasons as coach of the Gophers.

Not very many coaches that can boast a better resume than that.
