Dartmouth and UMass fan rooting for:
1) Yale (it'd be cool for an Ivy to win it, even if it's from New Haven)
2) Union (ECAC team w/o championship)
3) RPI (ECAC team, rank it below Union since they've got two big trophies)

Teams that this Tech fan will turn to in order to give him a sliver of hope:
- UND (would be cool to see a MacNaughton/Broadmoor/NCAA triple crown again, possibly with Frattin bringing home the Hobey for good measure)
- Western (a return to respectability, plus Littlest Cancer Patient mojo workin')
- RPI (a tough engineering school in the middle of nowhere with brutal winters, a lopsided guy/girl ratio, an extremely nerdy and fun pep band, and a storied college hockey history...now if a certain OTHER school I know of who fits that description would just follow suit...*pouts*)
- Michigan (I root for them out of spite for the college hockey gods)

Just a note: If Frattin, sorry, if MMFF wins the Hobey, toss that whole "character issues" qualification out the window. He has the stats, but......

Nothing to do with this thread but I had to throw that in there.
I think the importance of character was proven to mean little to the committee when Eric Ehn didn't win the Hobey...he had the numbers AND the character. Haha, not that I'm STILL bitter about that.

I'm just happy that this discussion finally doesn't apply to us Union fans.
But besides Union, I'm hoping to see the other ECAC teams, Merrimack, UNO, and Western Michigan do well.

Granted my team is still in it but there's a ton of teams to cheer for in this year's tournament... a lot of feel good stories and honorable teams in the field this year.
Classy kids - Western Michigan. Fantastic video someone posted last night. Try keeping your eyes dry during that.
Small schools - Union. I'm excluding Merrimack because they are dirty bastids, have overaged mercenaries, and I can't stand their brand of hockey.
Long drought teams - CC from the West (how long has it been now?), and UNH from the East. Would love to see UNH finally get one, they run a good program that plays a nice, honorable style of hockey.
Smart kids - RPI. All props to the Yale kids too but let's be honest, if they won it all the NCAA would eventually take it away since they have an ineligible player on the team (Cahill).
Heroes - Air Force
No reason specifically - Denver. I just like their program.
Basically, anyone but North Dakota, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, UNO, and UMD.

It'd be nice to see a directional/hyphen school like Western Michigan or Duluth win too.
In reality, it's obviously going to be Boston College or similar.

Purely in the interest of advancing the popularity of college hockey, I run an office NCAA pool and try to attract non-hockey fans as well as those who follow it. (This has not been financially successful for me in that people who know nothing have tended to do better than people picking based on knowledge. Eg, the woman, who despite my knowledge based urging not to, picked Holy Cross to beat MN.) The tie-breakers are total goals in the Championship game, followed by total shots on goal. People with no clue tend to ask for a range for shots on goal and I explain that very defensive games could be in the low 40's but that multiple overtime games with more wide open play could be double that. I just guessed at the numbers based on what is seen in games all season long. but I've never looked at NCAA games to see if there is a difference in shots (better defensive play with more shots blocked?) compared to regular season games. So, has anyone ever looked at this or looked at the range for shots on goal in NCAA games, or finals?
