My team got screwed thread - 2015 edition

Re: My team got screwed thread - 2015 edition

The 500 mile rule vis a vis Adrian. You must avoid a flight if at all possible in the 1st two rounds. Thus either Hobart or Oswego had to go West. That dictated the rest of the bracket.

It wouldn't have worked in that respect, just to move PSU to a 1st round game on the road? Adrian could have stayed put in its current berth with no shock-wave, seems to me.

My bad. Though Platty was 2-1. Still would've been nonsense to send them to Oswego...

Platty's body of work was a notch below Oswego's IMO, but that was a very very close call.

Still, I don't see how the Cards were seeded above OSU.

I would have had Oswego at home right thru the National Champioship:p

We could have, should have, been playing on home ice. We coulda been a contenda, ma!
P***ed that chance away....oh well move on to Hobart. This team was not great at home anyways.....

I'm still scratching my head over Norwich not getting a bye to the quarters, and having to travel to Amherst if they beat PSC.I watched the Williams-Amherst game in that morgue that is the Amherst arena, looks like it seats about 500 fans, and to be totally honest, I fell asleep in my chair watching it. No jump from either team and no noise from the crowd, (I'm assuming there were a few fans there).Usually Norwich travels well, and if we get past Plymouth I would assume a large Norwich contingent @ Amherst.

Plattsburgh traveled to Amherst 2 (3?) years ago and came home with an L. They may not look artistic, but it works.

Remember Norwich likes to freewheel. Amherst does not allow teams to freewheel.

And I think the box said 900 were there.

I just don't see how Plattsburgh beating Oswego causes them to jump over Norwich who beat Babson. Both wins, Both wins over ranked teams, both wins in the last 25% of the schedule. No change in in H2H and no change in record agains common opponents. (NU didn't play Oswego, and Plattsburgh didn't play Babson). Plattsburgh had the SOS advantage and gained a little bit because Osw > Babo. The comparisons could not have changed. It's not a big deal, because you still have to beat whoever you play, but it does not compute when two teams are ranked one way going into their game, no comparisons change, and they are flipped afterwards.

That being said, it's one more game they get to play and the don't have to deal with a week off.

How does the Record Against Ranked Teams comparison change if the loss for Babson drops them from the rankings, and those results disappear from Norwich's resume? That's still the only thing I can think of.

The comparison could, and did, change, in at least one category, and potentially two. Given 24 DIII games, Norwich's L25 held steady at 5-1 (.833). Plattsburgh's win, meanwhile, bumped their L25 from 5-1-1 (.786) to 6-0-1 (.929), meaning that criterion flip-flopped in Plattsburgh's favor. Additionally, Babson's loss may well have bumped them from eighth down out of the rankings, which, in combination with Plattsburgh's definite ranked win, would put Norwich in a RNK tie with the Cardinals (2-2-0 vs. 2-2-2). H2H and COP were and remained tied, as best as I can tell (1-1 and 5-1, respectively).

Even if Babson remained ranked, this puts each team at 2 criteria wins, with Plattsburgh holding both the committee-darling SOS and L25, a criterion I continue to dislike, but which the committee did appear to favor last season. If Babson did drop out, Plattsburgh continues to lead in those favored criteria, and holds a 2-1 advantage overall. It seems to me that Plattsburgh had a pretty strong case to make the jump.

I think it had to be the disparity in SOS, but who knows... The "criteria" are so malleable that they're meaningless. No telling what went on.

Seems to me that the only team that has a real gripe in being seeded below PSU is Trinity.
