MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Can someone post the critical scores. They won't show them here and USCHO doesn't seem to be updating for me.

I believe UNO got *****slapped by Denver, don't know the score. And last I saw SCSU was up 2-0 on UMD, but that was a little while ago and I didn't see an updated score on Twitter. Wisconsin is curbstomping Minnesota.

edit: yes, its 2-0 SCSU, and No Names are up 3-1 on Mankato, but that doesn't really matter.

At the end of the day, we shafted ourselves out of home ice by losing too many games against the bottom teams. Between Bemidji, Mankato, and Anchorage, there are ten points we gave up. Even bagging four of those points would've made us a lock for a top half finish already.

Good point! While it would have been fun to bag points from UNO, StC, & CC in head to head competition these past weeks, the road to the final 5 was less bumpy through BSU, MSUM & Alaska.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

By comparison, UNO had 6 points taken, St Cloud 7, and CC 6 by Bemidji, MSU, and UAA.

We played them more so it just shows these teams also were good competition.

You do not just get points against WCHA teams. You have to earn them and on some nights, that is a tall order whoever you are playing.

That being said, I sure hope we can some help with Denver and UMD tonight. All Tech can do is take care of their business.

Good luck guys, give your best shot tonight.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

What worries me is that we seem to take a vacation for the real big games. We've had several this year and we come out flat and end up losing. I like what we've done so far but learning to play when a lot is on the line would be real good.
Second our playoff run whatever it is depends on good defensive hockey, something missing last night.

Third you can't lose your temper. It hurts your team. Regardless of who did what to whom. playing a man down makes it hard to score goals generally.
And BB last night DU made uno look like a HS team.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Mel talked about that in his post game comments last night. The coaching staff needs a way to keep the pressure off of them because they don't seem to handle pressure very well (So we're just noticing that now?). Going back the past couple of years, it doesn't matter how well they are playing or who they've beaten, put them in a game that they must win or in front of a large crowd (home or GLI) they come out flat.

Genoe in goal tonight. Robo, a sore shoulder from getting run last night

True, but some would also say we stole points from DU, UMD, etc as well. If someone has more free time then me, figure out how many pionts were earned against top five teams and how many were earned against bottom six teams. If the number agaist the top teams is more that bodes well for the future.

Now off to the giant stainless dogfood dish... World Arena.

Pearson challenged the seniors to have the best years of their careers. Surely they cannot be satisfied with this weekend's result. I look forward to the playoffs, even though we will be traveling.

Maybe a week in Colorado Springs will help them. Also, historically speaking, CC is a very good team for us to face in the first round :D

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

we played really tough tonight. they can't be happy about facing us again next weekend.

hats off to traveling Misfits who started the "we're not leaving" chant. the best!!

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

And by 'traveling', I meant that we'll be making the strenuous drive from the hotel to the World Arena 4 days out of 6.

On the plus side, we should be mostly acclimatized by next Friday.

I feel sorry for all the Minnesota fans bragging about how the MacNaughton has "come home." Uh, no, Big Jim's Cup hasn't "come home" to Mariucci. :p

It spends so little time there, its hard to remember that's where it came from. :p

pretty sure it calls UND home since it has spent so much time there.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

What's going to happen next year when Minnesota, UND, DU, etc. win the MacNaughton? Since they are leaving the league will they get to have it for the next year? Will it go back to Tech? Could Tech actually have possession of the cup???!?!?!

Tech will just have to finish in first place. Problem solved. :D

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

hmmm. winning the conference. unlikely I would guess, but sure why not.

Regarding the games. It appears that it takes around 10 days to get acclimated to the altitude.( 4 weeks totally),and that Vo2 max is affected over 4500 ft.
I do a lot of hiking and if you hike Machu Picchu, the outfitter requires 4 days in town before the hike starts, minimum. it's a four day hike that tops at 13,000 ft.

So will they be acclimated, no, but they will be in a lot better shape than on saturday night.

I think they will play better even than they did on saturday, and that getting used to big ice and the altitude will all be a factor. I think saturday was close to playoff hockey; good defense, hard work, take advantage of chances when they come. I expect CC to do that as well. Should be a great series.Lets hope we can solve thormbert.

I have a question for those who were there. Did CC run four lines?

also did anyone else see this?
