Watched Wonder Woman last night waiting for curling. It wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be. I think it was the amount of mediocre CGI that really hurt it. Gadot was awesome in it though.
Ugh. Disappointing. I think I let my expectations get to high off the hype.
Had the day off, so rolled with the Grindhouse (Planet Terror/Death Proof) double feature and then the Machete/Machete Kills series.
I had forgotten how redonkulous and awesome all those movies were. For the uninformed, IIRC, these movies were the precursor to the ScyFy Sharknado/Megashark Vs Giant Octopus genre movies. Movies that were purposely made bad enough to be entertaining. It really is an art form.
Mute:
A mute man looks for his missing girlfriend in "near-future Berlin" (which is set 40 years ahead). The premise is good, given that many things are voice-activated, along with the traditional communication barriers. However, that does not excuse the "let's just throw random sh* that breaks social norms for the helluva it" stuff. I guess half the population has weird hair and is into transexual relations, etc.
Paul Rudd excels at his role, even though he's really a co-star. No other real names in the movie. Worth a watch if you want to try something a bit out of the ordinary.
I will ask you to leave the politics out of movies, unless that movie directly relates to a present issue. The only reason is that I use movies to escape the real world. For real. Thanks.I would think the future will far more accessible than the present, unless the Dumpies got to Germany too.

I would have really loved this movie had it not decided to throw random useless crap in there, because "it is set in the future." Yawn.
At the risk of stating the obvious: your equation of that stuff with "useless crap" is your politicization. Do you honestly not see that?
My issue as was stated, was "Let's throw in a bunch of 'out of social norms' stuff because we can, because it's set in the future. While that does go against the future admin, it is a weak excuse to toss in whatever the director/whoever wants, and does not forward the movie one bit. Nothing of this sort helped the plot or story, IMO.
Ok, let's back up a bit. For real. I felt that the director threw in a bunch of "gay sh*" just to do it, and for no other reason than controversy or whatever. It really added nothing to the story. I did a "Girl With Dragon Tattoo" marathon today, also, and her sexuality was part of her character, and added to the story. As far as I'm concerned, Mute added that stuff just to get shock value. Meh. Blech."Gay stuff is stupid."
"Not to gay people."
"Stop being POLITICAL!"

Well, let's not assume too much. Cultures continue to change, but they don't inherently grow up. In many ways, we've regressed over the past couple decades while at the same time advancing, depending upon the issue at hand.Is projecting interplanetary travel "shock appeal"? A story set in the future projects future tech and also future social habits. And by the sound of it it projects them along pretty boring trend lines from the present.
It's like a white supremacist seeing a story about the year 2100 and saying, "all this misgenation is just in there for shock appeal!"
Um, no. It's a projection that people and cultures are continuing to grow up.
