Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Suicide Squad is a different universe.

But, a universe just the same. ;) My overall point to my original question. I am not a comic book uberfan like some of ya (and uberfan is different than fanboy IMO). But if it's a stand alone, and it is a good one, I might be interested in seeing it.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Go.

The movie is to notch. It's a story with comic book elements and not a comic book movie with a story.

You'll have a quick rundown/background exposition to start the movie explaining things like vibrainium and the heart shaped herb. Other than that, the story stands on its own.

It does ask current, political questions, but it's tastefully done. It's a perfect storm in a very good way. Michael B Jordan, Letisha Wright, and Danai Gurera are all phenomenal in their roles. I really appreciated the characters they brought to life here.

Not the Sarah Polley/Katie Holmes flick?

That was my first thought.

Suicide Squad had its moments, but overall, the story was a mess.

Message From The King:

A Cape Town man comes to LA and involves himself in the criminal world in order to find his sister. Meh plot, but the main character's development is pretty good. Thoroughly enjoyed that part of the movie. You might not love the movie, but it's worth a watch.

3000 Miles To Graceland:

I thought it looked stupid at the get-go, and I was sorta right. Coulda been really good, but it was so disjointed, so scattered. I wanted to like it, but couldn't. I will admit, this was the first Costner movie I somewhat put up with. He was really good in this. I rate it a time-kill.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Just saw Jumanji (thanks Movie Pass) and it was awesome!!

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

I watched a film on Prime called Logan Lucky last night. It's an Ocean's Eleven-style heist film set among West Virginia Nascar fans. Besides a heist flick it's also a comedy, family drama, prison flick (featuring the great Dwight Yoakam as warden), you name it. It's weird what can happen when the screen writer, producer, director, and actors all have different ideas about what genre they're in and they all shoehorn in favored storylines into the same movie. It had some fun moments... I didn't not enjoy watching it at times. In summary, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a horror movie.

Well ordinarily you could tell if a black guy dies, but given the audience that would just make it a comedy.

Not sure if joking or not. Deeply suspicious.

Costner is great in Bull Durham. He is sh-t in everything else I have seen him in (particularly Field of Dreams) but he was born to be Crash Davis, even if he didn't know what a fastball was when they filmed it (supposedly a true story).

Nonsense. I recall learning that he played ball through high school at least.

That makes a lot more sense. Not to mention that the swing in the hardware store window is pretty sweet.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Having now seen it four times I am completely convinced that The Hateful Eight is a beautiful remake of/homage to both versions of The Thing.

I'm serious! Perfectly cast and hilarious!

Logan Lucky is a pretty good movie. Calling it like Ocean's Eleven is very accurate, since you could call that a comedy, family drama, heist flick, etc. There were some very funny parts of that movie, specifically, the prison scene with the inmates making demands to Dwight Yoakam. I'd recommend giving it a watch to people that haven't seen it.

The Rock is almost always in fun movies. Walking Tall, the rundown, fast and furious movies, Moana.

Looking at his filmography, I guess most I had never even heard of, but I almost always find myself watching Walking Tall when it’s on.
