Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Finally saw Black Panther. Very enjoyable film but not even close to the Dark Knight overall. I don't watch MCU films (except Spidey) so I can't say where it ranks in that universe. It was certainly better than anything the DCEU has produced (and yes, that includes Wonder Woman).

Spoilerish So near the end is basically Battle of the Basstards from GoT. The bad guys encircle the good guys with their shields, close in for the kill then an army comes in unexpected and saves the say. Not a complaint, they do it very well, but I immediately saw that the moment the ladies were trapped and guessed what was coming.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

The Rock is almost always in fun movies. Walking Tall, the rundown, fast and furious movies, Moana.

Looking at his filmography, I guess most I had never even heard of, but I almost always find myself watching Walking Tall when it’s on.

What's that Get Shorty sequel? The Rock was awesome in that. The Rundown was a good popcorn movie. As far as Tarantino goes...Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds keep fighting for that top spot, IMO. I love all his work, though.

Be Cool was awful but yes he was good in it.

Not sure if joking or not. Deeply suspicious.

We saw it 2 weeks ago when both the hubs and I were suffering from a serious case of cabin fever and post-holiday let down. We both thought it was FAR better than we gave it any credit for going in. Mostly for the reason below...
I'm serious! Perfectly cast and hilarious!
And I don't even like Kevin Hart or Jack Black (in a main role; he's great in High Fidelity). It was really great.
I watched a film on Prime called Logan Lucky last night. It's an Ocean's Eleven-style heist film set among West Virginia Nascar fans. Besides a heist flick it's also a comedy, family drama, prison flick (featuring the great Dwight Yoakam as warden), you name it. It's weird what can happen when the screen writer, producer, director, and actors all have different ideas about what genre they're in and they all shoehorn in favored storylines into the same movie. It had some fun moments... I didn't not enjoy watching it at times. In summary, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a horror movie.
Good to know it's on Prime -- I meant to see it in the theater, but didn't get around to it. I thought the trailer looked fun.

Logan Lucky is a pretty good movie. Calling it like Ocean's Eleven is very accurate, since you could call that a comedy, family drama, heist flick, etc. There were some very funny parts of that movie, specifically, the prison scene with the inmates making demands to Dwight Yoakam. I'd recommend giving it a watch to people that haven't seen it.
Good to know; I liked Ocean's 11.

Costner is great in Bull Durham. He is sh-t in everything else I have seen him in (particularly Field of Dreams) but he was born to be Crash Davis, even if he didn't know what a fastball was when they filmed it (supposedly a true story).

There's no way thats true. He and Augie Gaurrido new each other way back in their Cal St. Fullerton days.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

He's somewhat one dimensional I'll say that, but I loved Costner in Bull Durham, No Way Out and DWW.

Don't know if you've seen A Perfect World but I thought he was pretty good in that. Very good movie too.

Oh it wasn't a "good movie" when it comes to quality, etc. It was a complete mindless comedy. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I walked out, only the second time in my life I've done that (Crazy, Stupid Love).

And I am all for completely mindless comedies. God bless the Stooges.
