Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Uh, so there are going to be some surprised people tomorrow morning.

I kind of figured some serious **** was up when some random guy with a headset was frantically running through the La La Land crowd.

I turned it and am so mad I missed the fun.

Also, someone tell Casey Affleck to take a dam bath. Is this really how you wanted to look for your first Oscar? Yeesh.

He was interviewed before the show and said he's currently working on a film and the beard will go in a couple of weeks. He admitted it was not the best look for the Oscars.

Warren Beatty looked confused from the start. Pretty unbelievable finish to the show.

Yeah something seemed odd when that was happening. Did he really take the wrong card from the pile? (And Faye was technically the one who read it.)

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

I guess the stunt worked. Intentionally clicked on a link about the Oscars for the first time in, well, probably ever.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Is there some sort of a bad inside joke I'm missing with that? I've seen it all over the place.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

The Warriors are going to be mocked for choking in the NBA Finals for years to come. Ergo, this

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

The 3-1 lead? It's about the Warriors blowing the lead against the Cavs. It's since been reformatted to make fun of the Indians blowing the lead against the Cubs, but most people enjoy the original.

Basically if something big happens you say "but don't let that distract you from the fact that the Warriors blew a 3-1 lead with the unanimous MVP"

Zero Dark Thirty

I don't know how this won best picture. Maybe I need to see it again. The final scenes were well done. But there must have been a lot I missed.

You didn't miss anything. It was a Gesture Pick. They happen.

But it didn't win the Oscar, which went to Argo, which was lame and a pick where Hollywood was just blowing itself.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Wow. Manchester by the Sea is cleaning up as much as La La Land. I'm a little shocked. Maybe not so much when even Kepler relented on a movie about Boston. :p

Yeah, it was a great movie despite wanting everybody who appeared as a local extra, and their extended families, to be loaded into a rocket and shot into the sun.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

It holds because Star Wars is timeless.

Hmm. Gotta think about this, but you may have a point.

I think Spaceballs has actually gotten better with time. I remember when I saw it thinking it was lazy, unoriginal crap. And I still detest large parts of it (someone with a time machine please erase all evidence that Joan Rivers ever existed, please). But I forgot how well they nailed Vespa, Barf, and Yogurt. And a few of the scenes are brilliant ("When will then be now?" (beat) "Soon.")

Opinions vary, but if you thought La La Land was a flaming pile of garbage you're an idiot.

Gee, insightful. No, it was garbage. And I even like gosling and stone.
I went with a group of girlfriends who even like musicals and they hated it. Just hated it. All of us walked out wondering *** we'd seen.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

This is quite unreal...

So what happened that was so weird? (This is what I get for being old and going to sleep at 9.)

Edit: never mind, I see now. I'm really glad it wasn't the other way round.

Gee, insightful.

Yeah, just like your moronic comment.

I suspect your girlfriends are 12 (mentally if not chronologically) and like Disney musicals or whatever other garbage is on Broadway now. I love golden age musicals and LLL was an homage to them.

You went to Love Story* and are whining, "this sucks -- I love Michael Bay movies!!!" But I'll be kind. You're a fool.

* However, Love Story does suck except the hockey scene.
