No, not the old one from the forties or whenever. This is a 1998 film about four guys in Raleigh who get together, start up a band, and hit the road. A low budget, indie film, not the greatest acted, but since its subject matter fits right into my wheelhouse of interests, it's been one of my favorite films since I first saw it almost 20 years ago. Just received this from Amazon, as it's never been available on DVD, but you can now get it as a made-to-order DVD-R. Kevin Corrigan is probably the most famous actor in it, but also features Doug MacMillan, who is lead singer of the Raleigh band The Connells, and the director is the Connells' original drummer.
A nice sweet little film if you're a big music fan.
Amusing strange anecdote. On the day I ordered this, a post appeared in my Facebook feed from Greg Kendall, who scored the movie, and wrote the original songs played by the bands in the film. He posted a page from his RI high school year book, where he went to school with Michael Flynn, since resigned NSA director. Said back then, Flynn was a d0uche-bag bully.

When I first saw A River Runs Through It, which was directed by Redford, I thought the resemblance between Pitt and Redford in his youth was so obvious it must have been funny to those on the set.

In keeping with the theme of movies about rock bands, Still Crazy. Also from 1998, and also one of my favorite movies.
70's band Strange Fruit are playing at a huge outdoor festival when lightning strikes the stage, frying their equipment, and turning out to be their final gig, as simmering tension, drug abuse, and hatred finally overloads and they break up. 20 years later, their keyboard player, played by Stephen Rea, meets the son of the man who put on that festival, who is planning an anniversary show of that event featuring all the bands who originally played it, and the Fruits have a chance to get back together, if they can put aside their differences and become a band again. Their roadie, played by Billy Connolly, also shows up to help them along the way
But original singer Keith Lovell is long dead of a drug overdose, his brother, songwriter and guitarist Brian has never gotten over it, suffering from his own drug and mental health issues, and seems to have followed in his path, and the animosity between bass player Les(Jimmy Nail) and Keith's replacement as lead singer Ray Simms(Bill Nighy) still smolders. Mainly because Les cannot get past the fact that Ray isn't Keith.
It's a fun movie as it follows them on a series of warmup club dates that don't start off particularly well, as the band struggles to find its footing. But you'll be smiling during the show where it seems everything starts to come together, only to fall apart again later. Will they make it to the big outdoor festival gig or are the Fruits truly done for good? Has Brian really suffered the same fate as his brother?
The best part about this movie is the actors do their own singing, and the songs are really catchy. Makes them seem more like a real band. This is I think the first movie I ever saw Bill Nighy in, and he steals every scene he's in, as he usually does. It's a little serious and dramatic, and often hilarious. And the band performances are great.

The Autistic John Wick, aka The Accountant:
This was better than what I heard, but not as good as I hoped. It needed polishing. The ending was bordering between "Oh come ON!" cliches and "ok, that is a nice twist."
Good action/suspense movie, and honestly the whole autism bit is needed for the particular character that is the basis of this movie. It really would change the nature of Affleck's character otherwise. I'd recommend this

The Hallmark Channel WISHES they could make a movie as bad as this one. SO many things wrong with it, and that's even going into it believing that Kristen Stewart could pass the Armed Forces tests.
A guard at Gitmo bonds with a prisoner. I think you can fill in the blanks from there. Pure sh*.

I kinda agree. She was there for what, 1/3 of the movie at best, and then she disappeared until the end? Stuff like that, along with the ending....that's what needed polishing.

Had HBO free for the weekend and taped a few movies. One if them was The Road To Perdition. Hadn't seen that since it came out in 2002; thoroughly enjoyable.

The character COULD have had a point, but they decided to completely half-arse it. Which made it pointless. Here she is......and poof gone. Until the end of the movie for one scene that is supposedly meant to touch your heart. Whoopdeedoo.

A former goth who's studying to become a nun has her faith tested when she comes home to visit her brother, who was disfigured in the Iraq conflict. It was decent, although very raw, due to it being (what I assume to be) a low-budget indie movie. Kind of a "slice of life" movie, dealing with family relationships and such. If you're adventurous it's worth a gander.
