What is 3.5? R1?
Sorry, I like Empire a little better than New Hope. Just a little.
I disagree that Rogue One is better than Episode 7. That being said I liked it a lot.

I had almost zero issues with the film. The first 10 minutes were a little confusing but I caught up and enjoyed it all the way through. I also disagree with not wanting more films. It's very very difficult to establish "universes" like this and wanting more just seems natural. Especially with how many hours TV can milk out of one television series. I see nothing wrong or negative about movies trying to use a similar model.
I'd probably go
5, 4, R1, 7, 6* , 3+, 2, 1
+I've only seen 3 once, when it was in the theaters, so I don't remember it that well, but it is hard for me to imagine it was worse than 1 or 2.
*I might have put the original 6 ahead of 7, but the new Jabba music sequence and celebration crap ruined it. 6 gets some bonus points for being the first movie I remember seeing in a theater.
there were just some things in FA that puts it below R1 for me. I though the CGI monsters in Han's cargo ship were stupid, "there has to be a way to blow it up" plot point, too many in-jokes and nods to other stories in the franchise, too many convenient things happened (like Han and Chewy finding the Falcon, or a chasm opening up between Rey and Ren so she can't finish him off), why the **** does the remnant of the Empire go ahead and put all of their eggs in one basket with another stupid super weapon when that didn't work out so well two different times before. I'm nerding out too much here, but the Death Star had to travel through hyperspace to reach the system of the planet it is targeting. Apparently Star Killer Base is able to shoot something light years away (and despite the fact that it's weapon appears to travel slower than light, it doesn't take years for it to reach the target).
While stuck on my night shifts with the newborn, I've been rewatching the Harry Potter movies.
3 remains the best of the bunch by far, and the ironic thing is its the only one that doesn't have any incarnation of Voldemort in it.
My rankings of them: 3, 6, 7.2, 5, 7.1, 4, 2, 1.
Can't remember how I'd rank the books by comparison, though 6 would probably jump to the top and 5 would fall way down (it's the Harry Potter is a whiny little biatch novel).

My yin and yang for Johnny Depp.
He paints himself (imho) as someone that's different from the rest of Hollywood, yet is now set to release POTC #5?
He's great at playing characters, but I really enjoy him best when he plays it closer to "straight".
He can annoy me to no end with some of his portrayals, but I found him fascinating in Black Mass (watching it now).
There's an old rule among actors - you never quit a successful series until it finally fizzles and dies.
Every A-list actor has to pay the bills - the LA estate in Malibu, the country "house" in Provence, the ski "chalet" in Telluride, etc.
It's a wonder how they cope.![]()

Depp was good in Ninth Gate. That was in 1999. I haven't liked him in anything since. I think he had potential and it went to hell for whatever reason. c.f. Nicholson and Pacino.
But in general actors pass through good and bad periods, like painters. There has rarely been an actor who was uniformally good throughout his career.
I actually thought he was fine as Dillinger in Public Enemies, although the film itself was fairly dull.He was good in Ninth Gate but it's a horrible film.
Of the past 20 years I'd give him a thumbs up for Finding Neverland, Blow, Fear and Loathing, Donnie Brasco, and Black Mass. Before that Gilbert Grape, Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood.
