Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

If there was some genius developing super weapons for your enemy, why WOULDN'T you want him dead? Especially before you knew he was purposely designing in a huge flaw for you to exploit.

did the rebels know the weapon was fully functional when they ordered the assassination? I assume they thought he was key to the development and it would slow down progress if they eliminated him (not knowing it was too late).

By then it had been fired off (it blew up Forest Whitaker's town) so they knew it was too late. Killing him was all symbolic...

Oh God, "Hush" is awesome. You want suspense? You got it in that movie. Very well done.

Watched it Monday. I know it's a movie but I kept thinking to myself why the heck that woman didn't have a gun in the house especially living out in the woods. It was pretty intense though.

Where are you finding hush? Looked on amazon, Netflix and a few other movie channels on the Roku and can't find anything other than older movies named hush

I saw it on Netflix streaming a while ago. There is another "Hush" movie, IIRC, so you might have to do some digging. Indie movie, so it makes it tougher to find.

Compulsion (1959)

A couple of rich psychopath college kids think they are above the morality of the law, and commit murder. While at times a bit melodramatic and even sensational, I thought it was a great movie. Tighten this movie up a little with the acting, and you have an even better movie. Definitely recommend. Will have to check out Rope (Hitchcock) which apparently deals with the same source material.

Sing Street:

Set in mid-80's Ireland, a HS kid is transferred to a tough school, and forms a band to get girls and succeed. Trouble is, he has no idea how to do it. Coming of age movie overall, a bit of nostalgia thrown in. Loved it.

This is the event Rope is based on. I recommend it. Hitch doing his thing.

I love both Rope and Compulsion. While both use the Leopold and Loeb case as inspiration, Compulsion is the movie that most closely attempts to dramatize the actual Leopold and Loeb events, including a marvelous Orson Welles in the Clarence Darrow role.

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

Anyone ever seen Room? It hard to watch the first half for sure because of the subject matter but overall it's well done movie. The whole thing just makes a person uncomfortable.

I agree with this assessment.

Well done, but book was better. Also hard to read

Re: MOVIES: New Ideas Welcome!

BTW, to those seeing talk about how Star Wars lost two of its actors this year, it actually lost three. Erik Bauersfeld, who played two characters in the franchise died this year too; he played both Admiral Ackbar and Bib Fortuna - the guy who escorts Luke to Jabba's throne room.

So not only will Star Wars have to work around Leia not being there, but also Admiral Ackbar. His role was obviously less than the main characters, but don't be surprised if they take a moment to explain the new Fleet Admiral for the Resistance.

i doubt they have to replace the admiral, after all that's quite the costume. They'd just either need a new voice actor or to use archival audio? I mean I doubt Ponda Baba was played by the same guy in Rogue One?

CGI? If they did it with Peter Cushing, could they get away with it for Carrie Fisher??
