Dune 2 was perfection. This was a better adaptation of harder source material than Lord of the Rings IMO. The director made one major change from the book, and I was very unhappy about it but I understood why he did it. I think I was upset because it was the one piece from the book that I loved the most that I wanted to see handled on screen properly. Instead he avoided the issue altogether.

mookie watched In The Loop. imagined kepler watching this with a chubby. :-)

also caught Freelance on the plane. surprisingly enjoyable john cena move

Tried watching Poor Things. Wife: "It looks like a pretentious art film, you love that sh*t."

We made it about 30 minutes before shutting it off.

I haven’t seen it yet, is it as bad as La La land? Another Emma stone Oscar nominee

and yes, I realize someone here is going to be very condescending for anyone dare besmirching that hot steaming pile of dung

It was weird and hard to follow - felt like it lacked a clear story flow. It also relies a lot on strange camera angles, and the entire first act is shown in black-and-white, both of which are tired hallmarks of "trying hard" cinema today.

Of course Kep loves him some B&W wide fisheye lens from below the scene cinematography. ;-)

I'm not saying every film has to be a paint-by-numbers blockbuster where the hero wins and gets the girl; far from it. I just couldn't get into that particular film.

Reading some commentary, apparently we missed out on some pretty intense and controversial sex scenes. Oh well.

No real surprises to speak of. Oppenheimer takes best picture, director, actor, supporting actor, editing, score, and cinematography. I was rooting for Lily Gladstone but Emma Stone takes actress. Da'Vine Joy Randolph got supporting actress which was expected.

I don't really think there were any *other* major surprises except that they were ahead of schedule by a minute and told Kimmel to tell a joke.
