I will cut anyone who hates A Christmas Story. One of my all time faves.

As for Third Man, I appreciated it, thought it a little overrated, just not my jam.

As I say to people about craft beer:
1. You can say it's not your style.
2. You can say it's bad, as in "this beer is undrinkable."

Two different things. For Third Man, it's reason #1 for me.

Honestly, I get it if you’re 40-60+. It’s hardcore kitsch. I normally like kitsch. But Christmas story just never resonated. At all.

I love it for a different reason. I grew up listening to Jean Shepherd tell hundreds of stories about those kids. CS is only a few of them -- and for that matter it's the most tame and least rancid. Shep (Ralphie in the movie), Flick, Schwartz, Brunner, Bolus, Randy, the Old Man, Wanda Hickey... they were my Hormone Monster.

The PB was a perfect balance of a guy movie disguised as a chick flick, and vice versa. An awesome fairy tale that appealed to anyone (with taste). ;)

Which is wonderful because it's also how his dad "fools" him into listening to it in bed.

You are in the Millennial generation. Instead of denying it, own it. "I am a Millennial. But I'm not like my generation." You're halfway there. You don't act it, but deny your origin. ;)

I don’t think you understand how generations work.

Baby boomer = pre-1964
Gen X = 1965-1980
Millennial = 1981-1996
Gen Z = 1997-2015

15-year generations?

Where are we, Nambia?

Let's say:

8/6/45 Boomer -->
11/22/63 X -->
1/20/81 Millenial -->
9/11/01 Z -->

Still makes me a Boomer by a few months, but coasties are precocious so I claim X.

Also: generations aren't real.

We’ve discussed this before. Generations aren’t laser etched into hastelloy. It’s an identity and there is a lot of fungibility, especially in the transition.

Sorry, I just don’t identify with millennials. The only thing that keeps a grumpy old man like me even remotely tied to the millennials is the electronics.

I've seen numerous articles saying there's a weird little hybrid generation from 1977-1984, called "Xennials." They played outside as kids, and driving around town with your friends was a fun thing to do in high school. Still young enough to adapt to the technology boom seamlessly, though.

I suspect most of the writers of these articles were born between 1980-1984, and like dx, do not identify with millennials.

Also: generations aren't real.

This.
