Movies 51 - Rise of the Frozen Joker: Chapter II: Dark Fate

Knives Out. Solid A. Funny and well done. A throwback movie -- intelligent plot, good writing, and geared to adults instead of 20-somethings. Could have been done in the 1950s.

Taking your word for it. I'll let you know if you're wrong in about 3 hours. :p

Actually, it's quite good. Arguably the rebound movie Rian Johnson needed after all the SW fanboi flak he got for TLJ.

Had a few issues with Craig trying on the "Southern Fried Genius" accent, but 85% of the time he gets it right.

CSI KFC. I'm convinced that is a send-up of Peter Ustinov's horrific Belgian accent as Poirot back in the day.

This is the first Rian Johnson movie I've respected since Brick. He should stick to these.

Belgians have an accent? Isn't it either "French" or "Dutch" depending on what part of the country you're in?

It's French but it's different. The French despise it (of course).

If you ever want to amuse yourself ask a Metropol Parisian what they think of Quebecois. Do this from a safe distance.

Hadn't thought too hard about the CSI: KFC wisecrack, but you may be right.

Man, I didn’t know Johnson directed Brick. That movie is ****ing great.

Re: Movies 51 - Rise of the Frozen Joker: Chapter II: Dark Fate

My coworker just went on a 20 minute rant about how terrible The Irishman is.

Ill never see it either way, but wow, opinions.

Re: Movies 51 - Rise of the Frozen Joker: Chapter II: Dark Fate

New York Post had an op-ed piece that said the same.

If there was actually an op-ed rather than a review about a movie I have to see that.

"I am writing in these pages for I can no longer keep silent in the face of the DEPRAVITY that is Santa Girl."

It's a Scorsese movie made after the year 2000, so of course it's probably a self-parody of his usual tropes, right down to having his usual cadre of actors. Surprised he couldn't work DiCaprio in there somewhere.

He didn't stop doing that after The Departed? I thought we all got the joke?

You can only make "The Bowery Boys Meet Dracula" so many times until people start to think that's all you've got left.

LOL to the rest of your post, and here's the article.

The reviewer sounds like an idiot. I'm intellectually predisposed to hate everything about that movie (it sounds like the same overdone adolescent mafia crap churned out to cash in on the rubes ever since the GF 2 revenue stream went cold), but it won't be because of that review.

All reviewers are idiots.

At least one exception.

Patti's heroes may be gone, but she is both with us and for us, so strongly that her music is something, finally, to rally around. For one thing, she has certain qualities that can make her a hero to a whole generation of young girls, and may not be what you think. Suffice to say that Patti has done more here for woman as aggressor than all the Liberation tracts published, and has pushed to the front of the media eye that is just as much a process (ordeal) of learning to "become" a "woman" as it is for men wrestling with all this ballyhooed "manhood" business. It's this tough chick who walks like Bo Diddley and yet is all woman that we've been waiting for for so long, a badass who pulls off the feat of being simultaneously idol of women and lust object of men (and women, no doubt).

The Cincinnati Kid:
Up and coming poker gambler ends up taking on the best in the business. Solid movie. Kept you wondering what kind of ending it would be, as it should be. Some nice foreshadowing, some nice red herrings. If you know poker at all, that's a bonus; you find yourself trying to read the hands.

Plus....Ann-Margret. ;)

As far as The Irishman goes....Pesci's best role ever, and he never raised his voice. Who gives a sh* if it's the same actors? If that is what they do best, so be it. Just sayin'.
