Pi: Mathematician descends into obsession and madness as he tries to find apparently random but meaningful and predictable patterns in pi and complex systems.

I saw this for the first time about ten years ago and was underwhelmed, but I was concentrating more on the math and theory. This time I watched it more from a sympathetic viewpoint of the main actor, and was really drawn in. I think this may be one of those movies that is "better than it looks" (typically the reverse is true). I haven't enjoyed any of Aronofsky's later work, so I think he might have frankly gotten lucky with this piece, or the interesting elements may have been added by other people on the crew. Anyway, A minus.

I'm actually quite excited.

I have faith in J.J as I loved his reboot of Star Trek. He got the camaraderie right in the Star Trek movies (yeah, yeah, I know Trekies have issues with the reboot) much like there was in IV-VI amongst Han, Luke, Leia, Lando, etc...

To me, that's what made Star Wars so endearing and so enduring. Sure, it's a fantastic epic, but in the end, you loved the characters. They (the characters) became so much larger than the movies themselves.


That's the biggest FAIL where Eps I - III are concerned for me.

The story line is good. The battles and cgi are good. The characters and character development... well... there was none. They could all die in a fire for all I cared.

I will say I did like III though as it was pretty heavy and did a good job of showing Vader's fall.



And in the end, it can't be the hot mess that the Hobbit was/is. Right?


Again, I think they picked the exact right guy to do them.

Oh yeah, and the Ewoks suck.

They don't ruin that movie for me, but they taint it for sure.

Eps I and II were a disaster. The casting was wrong, the writing was boring, the screenplay was a bloated CGI clusterfark, and the scripts were awful. Across all three films, Hayden Christensen was stiff as a 2x4, and had zero chemistry with any of his fellow actors.

The Hobbit movies were good in comparison to either of those films.

I was so awful that when I read bad reviews of II I didn't bother with either it or III.

Is III worth a watch?

I chalked that up to Lucas wanting in on the kiddies' toy tie-in market. I ignored them. They're not why VI sucked.

No, some of them did. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, more so than Star Wars, and I thought both were absolutely brilliant. Some rodasses were going to hate it no matter what. THey're just the loudest.

I loved TOS and the reboot, too. The opening was lame but everything else was outstanding. Into Darkness blew moose cock.

Edit: Huh. USCHO lets you say cock. Cock cock cock. How many cocks is that? A lot.

Must be some ornithologists on the board.

III was better than the first two. You still have to tolerate the worst screen "romance" ever (or fast-forward through those scenes, since you know what's going to happen). The best bits all involve Ian McDermid. The guy just loves being Sidious and seizes his chance to devour the scenery.

Yeah, the first time I saw Pi I thought it was awful. I also watched it about 10 years later and thought it was fantastic.

The "romance" was toned down though as they were moving towards the climax of Vader's arc.

And don't get me wrong, III was still not great or even really good. I liked it though as the betrayal was well done.

Palpatine's character might be the only one that was allowed to show true emotion during the whole three-story arc. When Anakin turns bad, the emotion isn't wooden, but it's not pure in delivery. I couldn't decide if it was bad acting or done on purpose, as a character who was supposed to supress his emotions in order to be a Jedi now allowing them to show through to the audience.

More than anything, I blame the chorus of bad acting in those movies on Lucas. Each of the actors in those movies have done really good work in other projects, which causes me to point a finger at the director and writing - Lucas and Lucas.

I dislike Abrams usually, but I think he was perfect for this. His Star Trek movies were basically just Star Wars movies in Star Trek cosplay and he is an unabashed Star Wars fan. Plus he isnt a pretentious ****** ;)

Star Wars is one of two movies I plan to see in the theaters this year, the other being Mad Max which I think looks like tons of fun :) (next year will be similar)

I just remembered, I never even saw Hobbit 3: This Time Its For All The Money. Very odd for me as I am usually a completist but I never felt the need.

Pi: I sorta liked it. It was a little too out there for me, but I appreciated what he was doing. I do really like Aronofsky's later movies though. A lot.

Star Wars III: Best of the latter trilogy. The betrayal (Rule 66 was it?) was AWESOME. And I liked the final showdown.

Either they really tried to do a strong call back to RotJ, or Vader's ghost will make itself seen during the movie. I'm really hoping the line was delivered for the call back purpose.
