A lot of the jokes are referential towards other comics, movies, pop culture references, etc. Absolutely, many of the jokes are sophomoric, but the character is a bit insane when you look at the source material - depending upon which version of the comic they're using - he's either talking to the audience or he's talking to himself by way of referencing the audience. If breaking the fourth wall annoys you, you're not going to like the movie.
I might have to check this one out. The trailers make it seem a bit cheesy on the jokes, but then again, those are trailers. I've heard it earned its "hard R" rating, so that's a plus.
