I may be tone deaf but I thought of it as very much in the same character as the earlier movies (the ones that happened, that is) and I liked it for that. It felt familiar and comfortable and not in any way novel or ambitious.

We're talking about the one with the stupid throne room scene at the end, right?

The Sith were part of the movies that didn't happen so they don't matter.

There aren't any left. And there likely is never to be another one. At least that's the way I saw it. Best to go back to the old thread. I don't want to pollute this one any more on this topic.

I thought the implication was the chicky was going to hatch new ones and start it all over again, guided by Luke In Your Head.

TLJ didn't suffer because they tried new things, it was just a bad film that didn't work in my respects. TFA was worse for different reasons - in this case because of it's repetitiveness in plot, Rey's too quick ascension as a bad ass, the forest fight scene, etc.

FYI - the fanboy in me still had "fun" watching and I look forward to IX, but they have a lot to overcome to redeem themselves.

As somebody who had literally never read a comic book (and who has still only read one, Watchmen, all the way through), I had definite biases against the material going in. I've probably seen about 2 dozen comic book movies now and for the most part of I've liked them in a "kill 2 hours" way. A couple have been stinkers, a couple have been outstanding. But the mystique of the provenance of comic book movies is completely gone, now. They are just another kind of source material: like a play, a novel, or another movie.

There's nothing magic pixie about them good or bad. It's a question of whether you can bring a good story to life on the screen, which has been the heart of all movies since the Lumieres.

Alone In Berlin:
After a Nazi German working class couple loses their son in World War II, they decide to retaliate by secretly leafletting handwritten cards in Berlin denouncing their government.

Solid cast, great story (based on true events). It's a slower drama, While Emma Thompson and Brendan Gleeson are the stars of the movie, I really think Daniel Bruhl (Inglorious Basterds, Joyeux Noel) is the meat of the story. Really delves into the depth of the character. Definitely recommend watching this one.

Any indication on which side (east/west) they end up on? That would be the more interesting story.

Famous for showcasing Rita Hayworth's unbelievable sexuality, it also has terrific roles for two post-war actors who I love but always forget: Glen Ford and George Macready.
