Re: Movie Thread #50: Godzilla gives us permission to nuke our enemies

The best dumb movie of all time is Flash Gordon 1980. And it still holds up today.

Klytus:
Who are you?

Flash Gordon:
Flash Gordon, Quarterback, New York Jets.

I guess I’m only one who still likes Robin Hood: Men In Tights...

Right there with you. It's no Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, or Young Frankenstein, but it's still good to me.

Saw The Art of Racing in the Rain last week- which was based off a book written over a decade ago. Pretty strong to the book, and they, thankfully, left some details out and replaced it with something easier to deal with.

Bring tissues. Some pretty heavy subjects, and unless you are not human, you will cry at some point. The main character is a dog, afterall.

The actual racing is pretty brief, but the sayings around driving fast continue through the movie, and if you are a car person, one of the last scenes is pretty epic for your eyes.

Spaceballs doesn't belong in that group.

The third brilliant Brooks movie is The Producers.

Then there's a huge gap, and then fourth is The Twelve Chairs.

There's some good jokes. I'll always love "Hey Abbooooooott!"/"I hate that guy". But I first saw it when I was in middle school and thought it was one of the best movies ever, and then watching it a few years I was extremely underwhelmed. Too many of the jokes seemed telegraphed way ahead of time like a bad 90s sitcom, and as someone else mentioned being a parody of the Costner version loses some of its effect over time.

Re: Movie Thread #50: Godzilla gives us permission to nuke our enemies

"Unlike some Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent."

That's a direct swipe at the Costner version, but that joke still gets me. :D

Your takes are bad and you should feel bad.

Spaceballs is a solid .280 hitter.

Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and The Producers are in the Hall of Fame.

I GET ANOTHER SHOT!

Yes...yes he does!

Brother, you have surrounded your given name with a foul stench! From this day forth, all the toilets in the kingdom shall be named...JOHNS! Put him in the Tour of London...make him part of the tour!

Didn't like Young Frankenstein. Loved Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles. Haven't seen The Producers.

A black sheriff?
Why not?! It worked in Blazing Saddles!

Dave Chappelle before he was anybody.

Hmmmph. Young Frankenstein is my fave. Probably cause my dad brought me to it when I was a little kid. One of the first movies I ever went to.

We didn’t land on Sherwood Forest, Sherwood Forest landed on us!

That whole scene with Elwes doing Churchill and putting the villagers to sleep followed by Chapelle doing Malcom X is hilarious.

The Men in Tights dance...hell any of the parts with the Men in Tights are worth the price of admission...as is Amy Yasbeck. John Ritter was a lucky man!
