More about expansion for women's hockey

Re: More about expansion for women's hockey

I'm not sure who they would play. The Midland athletic department seems to belong to the NAIA (not NCAA.) Is there a women's hockey presence currently in the NAIA? My understanding was that even the men's programs went away in the 1980s.

Maybe the new AD forgot to check if there were any other teams in the NAIA.

I love how the last sentence of the article on the university's web site says, "While some details remain to be finalized...". Ummm, yeah.

There's a number of NAIA schools playing sports that aren't championship sponsored by the NAIA. Lacrosse is one of the largest, and likely on the path to becoming the next NAIA championship sport. The NAIA schools currently fielding men's and/or women's hockey compete in the ACHA.

Hobart/William Smith????

Hobart/William Smith????

Does anyone have any information on this program? Announced a new team, posted the coaches position a while ago and since then there has been nothing.

Fantasy women's NCAA draft:

If Bozek falls to #6 Calgary is getting a steal. I realize that Sakic and Roy have indicated that they don't really want to take a defenseman at #1 but if they don't select Bozek, Florida has to be all over her at #2.

Man even these writers see the value in Hannah Brandt! Great concept and pretty realistic!

Right! I'm a little unclear who chose the players for this mock draft. Was it the single writer of the article? If anyone can enlighten me on the process of the picks, I would be most appreciative.

I'd guess it is like any mock draft, where Mel Kiper spends weeks figuring out the order players will be picked and three picks in everything veers off course. The order these players would be picked would be highly dependent on the players already on these fantasy teams, if any. Does the team need a goalie or not, etc. Just a fun exercise, but kudos to someone for taking the time to do it.

Is there any site, or individual that ranks incoming recruiting classes, like they do in college football? It would be interesting to see how teams rate before the season begins, and then to monitor that over the coming years.

No. Youth hockey doesn't lend itself to providing the stats, press, etc. that football/hoop use to make "assessments" of the players.

Curious if there has been any talk of expansion as of late?;)

Haven't heard a thing. Earlier this summer in St. Cl, though, I noticed one of the intern coaches was from South Dakota St. U. Definitely nothing to look TOO deeply into, but I thought it was pretty interesting to see. The club team from Rhode Isl. always seems to schedule games with d3 schools. Again, probably not much going on there, but good for them!

Doubtful that RI would go D3 as they are a D1 program. They don't have a men's team and are financially strapped as a school in one of the most financially challenged states in the country. Unlikely that they will have a varisty team anytime in the near (or even distant) future.

True. Any thoughts on Miami, O? The coach (and asst?) were at Beantown scouting and chatting with folks.

Would be nice, but there were a number of college club team coaches there so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Stephen Ross has donated $200 million to the University of Michigan of which half is to go to the athletic department. Any thoughts as to weather or not the school may use any of this money start a women's ice hockey program ?

Not likely unless it was specifically stipulated.
