Wow, finally got some unsigned neg rep from this thread. I'm crushed. And to the mysterious writer, they are wrong. Life does revolve around the Gophers. You just haven't realized it yet. That's okay, we can wait. I know Gurt will be coming around soon. Don't deny it, you know it's true.

Pretending that everyone is "special" does wonders for their self esteem, if not their performance. For the next decade or so our country will continue to endure the results of that "we're so special/self esteem" initiative that was foisted on a past generation. Looks like some areas of hockey in particular got caught in that tide of hogwash also.

Not too worried. But the only neg rep that I've ever got that was signed was retaliation for going neg first.... not counting the neg rep I got which was signed with a fake name.
Self esteem, absolutely. Performance I'm not so sure. It hasn't done much for some of the kids on my boy's soccer team.

here's my point. the ONLY people including AAU Championships w/NCAA Championships are 2 minnesota fans. no-one else, and I've not read anytime anywhere that hockey beat writers or coaches consider these pre-NCAA titles on the same level as actual NCAA Titles.

I think the point here is where do you draw the line before something becomes important and actually matters. Are you telling me there was quality competition in the early days of the NCAA? How did they pick the 4 teams? Why? Who got screwed that should have been included? Michigan and CC played in the first several tournaments but did CC only play because it was in their city? I don't know for sure any of those answers, do any of you? Someone decided to draw a line arbitrarily based on their opinion and that's what everyone is fighting over. It's an important part of history and I'm fine with there being a banner hanging for it. Hockey did exist before 1948 so remembering it is fine too. So feel free to get back to the 6>5 routine that you hang onto so desperately because it's all you've got.
Now anyone got an answer on where to get my campus styled spring hat? That's the real fight that should be going on.

1. You're wrong. It isn't just two fans. The University of Minnesota is including the 1940 championship with the 1974, 1976, 1979, 2002, and 2003 championships. They hang that banner with the others (they don't with the 1929 banner) and it is the same color as the others (the 1929 banner isn't).
2. The only people talking about 6>5 or 6=6 and that other nonsense is you and JDUBBS. I don't care if UW has more championships than Minnesota or vice versa. I just care that our championship programs get the recognition they deserve from OUR school and OUR fans.

If this is true, then why are you posting on a college hockey board trying to convince the rest of us that it's a legit national championship?
If you truly only cared what the University and the other Gopher fans thought of this title, you wouldn't be arguing with anyone on here about it.
The accepted norm for titles on this board is NCAA titles. No poster on here made this up, we just live by it because it's what is generally accepted by all of college hockey (media, coaches, the NCAA, fans outside of Minnesota). It doesn't matter in the least where your school hangs the banners or what color they are.
No one on here is suggesting that you shouldn't be excited that your team won an invitational tourney in 1940. Make t-shirts if you want. Just don't expect anyone else to accept it as a national title that matters.
Keep telling us how you don't care about what any of the rest of us thinks though...

I thought UW had more titles by one??? Six in much less time than it took UMinn to get five?? Isn't that the whole reason why some insecure Gopher fans are clutching so desperately to those games back when they used a Mason fruit jar lid?
Sorry, UW doesn't have more titles. And it wouldn't matter if they did. They have far less history and virtually no tradition. They are a plug-n-play program that owes it's existence to Minnesota. All of their coaches have had MN connections, they have relied heavily on MN players, their only real tradition is being so tied to Minnesota
