MN Gophers @ tUMD Bulldogs: Sibling Rivalry!

Re: MN Gophers @ tUMD Bulldogs: Sibling Rivalry!

So, you're happy with the one win and the knockout of the NCAA's then? Cause that's basically what happened. It's not like I started the offseason thread. Comments like yours above are the "moral" victory talk I'm referring to.

Moral victory? No. But if you can't find a single positive, you are being rather ridiculous.

If MN were somehow to go 7-2-1 they would have a pretty good shot at the Tournament. Is that likely? No, I don't think so. But I'm not totally discounting them either.
That's a big part of the definition of being a fan....

I guess I can't compartmentalize like you can. A fine trait, but not one that posess.

Re: MN Gophers @ tUMD Bulldogs: Sibling Rivalry!

I did. I'll still watch the games out of morbid curiosity, though. If you set expectations at zero, it's no longer possible to be disappointed. :p
I tried that. It doesn't always work. Too much emotion wrapped into this team:)

Re: MN Gophers @ tUMD Bulldogs: Sibling Rivalry!

Agreed.

True. But how can someone set the expectations at zero and still be disappointed?

It's like buying a PowerBall ticket and checking the numbers. You have no realistic expectations, just a fantasy that you'll beat the incomprehensible odds. It is less than a "glimmer" of hope, but it is all you've got.

Re: MN Gophers @ tUMD Bulldogs: Sibling Rivalry!

I just hope we're not down by 2 goals after warmups... anything less than that should be a moral victory.

Hell, I wouldn't be suprised to hear the Gophers were already down by a couple goals on my drive up tomorrow afternoon. If they wait until warmups to give up the goals, maybe the Gophers can keep tDogs under 20 goals for the weekend:).

Re: MN Gophers @ tUMD Bulldogs: Sibling Rivalry!

How is Patterson doing for the gophers has he been consistent or off and on? I know about the offense and defense and how you never know what team is coming but good goalies can go a long way. Either way getting shut out by Alaska didn't help their mind set.

Patterson has been really the only bright spot for the Gophers this year. He has been pretty solid and given the Gophers a chance to win pretty much every game he has played in. If the Gophers do well this weekend, my guess is it will be because Patterson stands on his head.

Correct. Cepis, Hoeffel, and Barriball started the year off pretty well but now the disease that is lack of scoring has infected the whole squad. I really honestly expected scoring to be up considerably with this squad this year but it's not.

In my opinion its how Lucia recruits he gives them no time to develop he just throws them in there and it doesn't work, it only works one in 50 kids if that. Either way Bulldogs need to keep shooting and from what I noticed last series between these two is go high on Patterson. But things change so lots of shots

I find it hard to believe that you had a positive outlook at any time ever.

I was quite bullish on the season. And quite excited about the potential scoring punch after the UMASS series. My prediction was that they would finish 3-7 in the league and I was quietly hoping and thinking it would be closer to third. I did a post on GPL about the points they lost this year that they should have gotten and that would have them at 4 right now. Instead they are 6th and I'm betting they end up at 7 when it is all said and done. Just because I'm extremely negative now does not mean I am never positive. I get teased around here (at work) by the other Gopher fan cause I always start out the year thinking the team is going to do well and explaining why and the last four years now I have been dead wrong.

Oh Scooby. It was just hyperbole.

True true. The only posistive I took out of the first two series the Gophers played this year was that they scored a lot of goals. I thought even if they had the same defensive lapses, they might be able to cancel those out by scoring a lot of goals. In all honesty, it seems that the defense has tightened up(a little bit) and the offense has all but disappeared(especially guys like Hoeffel and Bariball as you noted) aside from that outburst against AA.

Yep. Exactly. What they needed to have happen was the offense to stay and the defense to tighten up over time. Instead they reverted back to the last 3 years or so and turned their goaltender into their best player.

Perhaps everything you know is wrong.
